Tennessee Titans trade deadline updates: The latest news, rumors and moves

The Tennessee Titans figure to be one of the busiest teams ahead of the 2023 NFL trade deadline.

The deadline for NFL teams to trade players this season comes at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Titans (3-4) are rumored to be one of the most active teams on the trade market and are receiving calls inquiring about a number of top players. Running back Derrick Henry, receiver DeAndre Hopkins, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and defensive lineman Denico Autry are among the biggest names who could be moved.

The Titans got a head start with trades last week, moving two-time All Pro safety Kevin Byard in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. In return, the Titans received safety Terrell Edmunds and two late-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Rumors have swirled about Henry's status. On Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Titans have told Henry they don't intend to trade him but that that won't preclude the team from making a move if the deal is right. After Sunday's game, Henry said he's had conversations with Titans GM Ran Carthon about the deadline and understands the position he's in as a running back approaching 30 years old but has expressed his preference to stay with the Titans for the remainder of the season.

Tennessee Titans updates ahead of the NFL trade deadline

Titans make no moves as trade deadline passes

Outside of last week's trade of Kevin Byard to Philadelphia, the Titans did not make any trades close to the trade deadline. The trade window closed at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Veterans Derrick Henry, Denico Autry and DeAndre Hopkins, who all had varied trade buzz, stay put.

NFL trades this week: Commanders trade away pass rushers Chase Young, Montez Sweat

Updated Tuesday. Oct. 31, 2:45 p.m.

  • The Commanders continue to trade former first round edge players, sending 2020 No. 2 overall pick Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2024 third round pick, the NFL Network reported. Young, 24, ranked second on the team in sacks (5.0) and is headed for the best sack total of his career. Young was the 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year but tore his ACL midway through the 2021 season and was limited to three games in 2022. But he is back to full health and has been a vital part of the Commanders defensive line. The 49ers will send a compensatory third round pick to Washington; San Francisco will get compensatory picks in 2024 for Ran Carthon becoming the Titans GM and DeMeco Ryans becoming the Texans head coach.

  • The Packers traded defensive back Rasul Douglas and a 2024 fifth round pick to the Bills for a 2024 third round pick, NFL Network reported.

  • The Browns traded receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Lions in exchange for a 2025 sixth round pick.

  • The Jaguars acquired offensive lineman Ezra Cleveland from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round selection. The trade was first reported by NFL Network, with compensation first reported by The Athletic. Jacksonville adds a young and experienced offensive guard in Cleveland, who has started every game for the Vikings in 2021 and 2022, and six games this season.

  • Former Titans and University of Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs has been traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Minnesota Vikings, per reports from NFL Network. The Vikings were considered to be one of the teams most interesting in adding a quarterback, so that's one fewer team that would hypothetically be interested in Tannehill. Dobbs, who's started for the Cardinals all season, played two games for the Titans at the end of the 2022 season, losing both contests.

  • The Bears are acquiring Commanders pass rusher Montez Sweat for a second-round pick, the NFL Network reported Tuesday, a curious move for the team at 2-6. Chicago does have two first round picks in 2024, its own and Carolina's selection as a part of the Panthers' trade up to No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Sweat, who will be a free agent after this season, led Washington with 6.5 sacks in 2023.

  • The Eagles traded defensive lineman Kentavius Street to the Falcons, ESPN reported Monday. Philadelphia is sending Street and a 2025 seventh round pick to Atlanta for a 2024 sixth round selection. Street was buried in a deep Eagles defensive line depth chart.

  • Seattle acquired Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the New York Giants in exchange for a 2024 second round pick and a 2025 fifth round selection, the team announced Monday. Williams had 22.5 sacks in parts of five seasons with the Giants, including 1.5 sacks and five quarterback hits this season.

Report: Derrick Henry trade more unlikely as restructure deadline passes

Monday, Oct. 30, 3:30 p.m.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Monday that the Monday deadline for Derrick Henry's contract to be restructured before tomorrow's deadline has passed, making a trade more unlikely.

Henry will be a free agent at the end of the season and has $5.5 million left on the deal. He is 5th in the NFL in rushing yards at 526 and has two 100-yard games this season, including 101 rushing yards against the Falcons last Sunday.

Peter King: Derrick Henry is 'only true star' on trade market, Titans should push for Day 2 pick compensation

Monday, Oct. 30. 12:30 p.m.

NBC Sports' Peter King wrote in his weekly Monday morning column that he believes Derrick Henry is the only "true star" on the trade block, and the Titans should push to get Day 2 compensation for the 29-year-old back.

Henry said after Sunday's win that he has been in communication with GM Ran Carthon and wants to continue playing for the Titans. But King believes the Titans should consider trading him to a contender, and that contending teams with a need should pursue Henry because he can "be a difference-maker in two or three games down the stretch."

"What’s better—taking what you can get for Henry, or letting him play out his last 10 games as a Titan and ensuring the franchise will get nothing in return for him?" King wrote in his column.

King also cited the Titans only having one Day 2 pick in 2024 as further motivation to push for a Henry trade with the right compensation.

"For a team in certain rebuilding mode in 2024, that’s bad," King wrote. "It’s why Carthon should be motivated to get a Day 2 pick for Henry."

Mike Vrabel: Titans open to fielding trade calls for Ryan Tannehill

Monday, Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel commented on whether the team has been fielding calls about Tannehill after rookie passer Will Levis' emergence Sunday against the Falcons. Vrabel said he hasn't heard if any calls came in inquiring about Tannehill yet, but he's willing to listen to offers that can help the team.

"If Ran tells me that somebody called we’ll talk about whoever player they called about and what they would offer and make a decision," Vrabel said. "Does (Levis’ performance) change the situation that we would listen? I think we owe it to the team to listen as diligently as possible on anybody that would call. Regardless of player, person or position. Just to make sure that we’re doing right by the football team."

Titans offense shines with Will Levis in win over Falcons as Derrick Henry reaffirms his trade stance

Sunday, Oct. 29

The Titans snapped a two-game losing streak with a 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Some of the Titans' most obvious trade targets showed just how valuable they can be. Henry rushed for 101 yards, Hopkins caught three touchdowns and Autry logged four tackles with a sack. But the most important development for the Titans was the emergence of rookie quarterback Will Levis, who threw four touchdowns to pilot the Titans to a win and spark optimism for a team that might be a little less willing to tear down given his success.

Henry also spoke about the trade deadline after the game, explaining his reaction to the rumors circulating about teams making offers to acquire him before Tuesday.

"Everything’s going in a positive direction," Henry said. "I understand my position. The lifespan of it is not too long. I’m getting older. I ain’t getting no younger. At the end of the day, I know it’s a business and I understand that. Coach said earlier this week we signed up for it. Sometimes the business side is not what you always want, but it’s a business. At the end of the day, I’m a Titan and I’m happy to be a Titan. I’ll do whatever I can to help this organization continue to win and keep going further and further and do what we can to possibly get a championship this year."
