Tennessee Titans final score vs. Chargers: Highlights, news from NFL Week 2 game

The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers will both try to avoid an 0-2 start to the 2023 NFL season when they meet Sunday in Nashville.

The Titans (0-1) play the Chargers (0-1) at Nissan Stadium on Sunday (noon, CBS). Both teams suffered close defeats in Week 1, with Tennessee losing 16-15 against the New Orleans Saints, and the Chargers losing to the Miami Dolphins 36-34.

Since 1970, just 39 of the 405 teams (9.6%) that have started 0-2 have gone on to make the playoffs. By contrast, 41.8% of teams that start 1-1 make the postseason.

These two teams last met in December 2022 in a game the Chargers won on a last-minute field goal. Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill injured his ankle, and though he finished the game, he required surgery afterward, ending his season. He struggled in his return to action last week, throwing three interceptions and no touchdowns.

Chargers score TD on Keenan Allen 4th down catch

8:16 left: Chargers are going for it, and Herbert finds Keenan Allen for a touchdown. Two penalties on the play, and both are on the Titans. Jeffery Simmons called for a roughing the passer penalty, and defensive pass interference on Tre Avery. TD stands.

Chargers go for two and get it with Herbert throwing to tackle-eligible Trey Pipkins.

8:24 left: Joshua Palmer is initially ruled to have gotten two feet in the back corner of the end zone, but then the ruling is changed.

Brandon Staley challenges the play. One shot makes it look like Palmer dragged the second foot.

Titans offense struggling with Chargers pass rush

11:50 left: Morgan Fox sacks Tannehill on third down. Third Chargers sack of the day. Titans will punt.

Excellent punt from Ryan Stonehouse, but the return moves into Titans territory.

Real rough start for the Titans offense today. Tannehill has lost more yardage on sacks than he has gained through the air, which means the Titans have minus-16 net passing yards through three possessions.

14:40 left: Chargers will punt on 4th and 3 from Titans territory. Nice third down tackle by Tre Avery after the previous missed tackle on 4th down.

First quarter

2:25 left: Joey Bosa sacks Tannehill on third down on a stunt against the Titans' left side of the offensive line. Chargers are limiting Bosa's snaps early, but that was a drive-ending impact play. Titans will punt.

Pretty clear that the Chargers are going to target the left side of the Titans' OL today with Skoronski out.

Chargers opens the scoring on field goal after 4th down conversion

3:45 left: Cameron Dicker makes from 27 yards out. Nice stop by the Titans defense on goal-to-go, including a Roger McCreary TFL.

4:44 left: On 4th and 2, Justin Herbert finds Mike Williams on a short route. Williams breaks away from Tre Avery's tackle attempt and sprints for a 20-yard gain. First and goal, Chargers.

6:10 left: Joshua Kelley runs through a Titans tackle to convert a third down.

8:51 left: Tyjae Spears gets the third down carry on 3rd and 5, and he gains a yard. Titans going for it just into LA Chargers territory.

On 4th down, Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray blitzes untouched over the left side and sacks Tannehill instantly. Bad, bad. Chargers ball in Titans territory.

Hopkins has been dealing with an ankle injury suffered late in the Week 1 loss to the Saints last Sunday. He has not practiced this week leading up to the game, but he is expected to play, per ESPN.
