Suns-Lakers updates: LeBron James leads L.A.'s 4th quarter comeback to beat Phoenix

The Phoenix Suns (4-5) fell to the Los Angeles Lakers at home 122-119 on Friday, both team's opening game in West Group A of the In-Season Tournament's Group Play.

Los Angeles (4-5) snapped its four-game skid and ended Phoenix's two-contest win streak.

After Phoenix led L.A. in the first three quarters, LeBron James (team-high 32 points, game-high 11 rebounds, six assists) pushed L.A.'s fourth quarter comeback to beat its Pacific Division rival.

Kevin Durant had the game-high 38 points, added nine rebounds, five assists, and Bradley Beal had 24 points for Phoenix.

The Suns' next game is Sunday hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder at 6 p.m., the second of their three-game homestand.

Phoenix remains in front of L.A. entering the final period, 96-89.

Kevin Durant drove Phoenix's offense, and now has the game-high 31 points (10-of-22 shooting) after producing 15 of his points in the third.

LeBron James has the game's second-most 27 points (9-of-14 FG) for L.A.

The Lakers cut the margin to as low as three at the third's midpoint, but Durant and company extended the lead.

Phoenix is ahead of L.A. 63-55 at the break.

The game's biggest stars Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and LeBron James delivering a scoring exhibition for the Phoenix home crowd.

Beal has a game-high 20 points on an impressive 70% shooting, has four rebounds and two assists thus far in his Phoenix home debut. Durant has 16 points, four boards, and two assists.

James gained steam in the second quarter, shelling out 14 of his L.A.'s high 19 points (7-of-10 FG), has three assists, and two rebounds.

Phoenix had its biggest lead of the game 14 point in the second period.

Suns rise past Lakers in 1st quarter, LeBron hurt

Phoenix doesn't have its Big 3 yet, but Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant are compensating as an elite scoring tandem in Devin Booker's absence.

Durant has the game-high 14 points and Beal's nine points caused Phoenix to surge past L.A. and finished the first quarter on a 34-25 lead.

L.A.'s top scorer is D'Angelo Russell with 10.

LeBron James (five points) was injured on a turnaround jumpshot attempt over Durant halfway through the opening period. He hobbled nursing his left leg shortly thereafter the play and Christian Wood replaced him at 4:09.

James returned for the second quarter.

Starting lineups

Bradley Beal is making his home debut for Suns against the Lakers. He will start in Phoenix's backcourt with Grayson Allen, Keita Bates-Diop and Kevin Durant respectively at the three and four spots, and Jusuf Nurkic in the middle.

L.A. has made a lineup change for tonight starting Cam Reddish at forward instead of Austin Reaves. Reddish will be joined by LeBron James, Anthony Davis at the pivot, as well as backcourt mates Taurean Prince and D'Angelo Russell running the point.

Lakers' Russell on Booker out again, Davis in for L.A.

Devin Booker (right calf strain) has been ruled out against the Lakers, per Phoenix's Thursday injury report. That will be the fourth consecutive game he's missed, second straight against the Lakers, and seventh total of Phoenix's nine this season.

"I know Book, he's not a guy that's gonna miss any reps, so prayers to him," Lakers starting point guard and Booker's longtime friend D'Angelo Russell said at their Friday shootaround. "Hope he's getting right, and looking forward to the matchups."

L.A.'s eight-time All-Star big Anthony Davis (hip/groin) will play tonight. He was upgraded to probable on Friday afternoon and was declared a go during the Phoenix and L.A. coaches' pregame media sessions.

Davis missed Wednesday's game at Houston after he suffered his injuries in L.A.'s Monday loss at Miami.

He's L.A.'s second-leading scorer (23.9 points) and field goal percentage 55.3% behind LeBron James, top rebounder (12.0) and 3-point shooter (42.9%), as well as the league's first-ranked in blocks (3.3 blocks) through his six games played.
