Is Stefon Diggs to blame for Kirk Cousins' costly pick-six vs Saints?

Late in the third quarter Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings were driving with a chance to tie the New Orleans Saints, trailing 20-13.

Then Kirk Cousins threw an interception at the Vikings 45-yard line directly to Saints cornerback P.J. Williams, who had a clear path to the end zone to take a commanding 27-13 lead.

Saints take control with late interception

In real time, it looked like an awful decision and pass from Cousins.

But replay shows that his intended target Stefon Diggs may have let him down.

What was Diggs doing?

Cousins was pressured on the play and stepped up into the pocket where he looked to Diggs, who was running a crossing route near the line of scrimmage. Right before Cousins released the pass, Diggs cut his route short. He just stopped running.

Williams did not stop and found himself the direct recipient of Cousins’ pass and facing an open field.

It’s not clear on the replay why Diggs cut his route short. Judging by his reaction on the sideline, Cousins looked as confused as everybody else.
