Steelers to hire Seahawks assistant Aaron Curry as linebackers coach

The Steelers will hire Seahawks defensive assistant Aaron Curry as their new linebackers coach after the departure of Brian Flores, according to a report by Matt Zenitz of On3.

Aaron Curry was a first-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2009, but switched to coaching after fizzling out as a player. As a player, Curry got his start at Charlotte, where he graduated from a graduate assistant to the defensive line coach. But he would join Pete Carroll’s staff in Seattle shortly thereafter, rising up the ranks to a defensive assistant since joining the organization in 2019.

Curry took on the role of becoming the assistant defensive ends and outside linebackers coach this year, where he lead to breakout seasons from Darrell Taylor and Uchenna Nwosu. The Seahawks run a 3-4, so this transition should make plenty of sense for the Steelers from a schematic standpoint. The Steelers do borrow a good deal from some of the defensive line usages that the Seahawks utilize.
