StarNews reporter Michael Cuneo earns national honors for high school sports coverage

StarNews reporter Michael Cuneo received national recognition for his coverage of high school sports this week as the Associated Press Sports Editors annual writing contest for 2023 top-10 results were announced.

Cuneo ranked among the country's best in the C Division circulation categories for explanatory and beat writing.

His beat is high school sports in Wilmington, and Cuneo's stories about diversity in wrestling, a Hoggard multi-sport athlete working through recovery from a horrific car accident, South Brunswick baseball producing a No. 1 national prospect, a longtime-coming rivalry win and a Laney football player's fight with cancer were part of the winning package.
