South Brunswick football coach Rocky Lewis steps down after eight years with team

After eight seasons as the head football coach at South Brunswick, Rocky Lewis resigned from his position with the team Tuesday, Lewis confirmed to the StarNews.

Lewis, who still teaches at the school, informed his players Tuesday morning about the decision. The coach went 29-54 over eight seasons as the Cougars play-caller, finishing last fall 2-8.

In the Cougar's best season under Lewis, the team went 6-5 and earned a playoff appearance for the first time since 2011. South Brunswick earned another playoff bid in 2022, falling to Terry Sanford in the first round.

South Brunswick struggled last fall, finishing last in the Mideastern Conference as injuries plagued the team.

Lewis is the son of North Carolina high school football great Bob Lewis, who coached teams to over 300 wins and four state championships.
