Spurs rookie Blake Wesley nears 20-point effort in G League

San Antonio Spurs rookie Blake Wesley neared a 20-point performance Monday on assignment with the Austin Spurs in the NBA G League in a loss to the Delaware Blue Coats.

Wesley produced 19 points, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot in the 127-107 loss at the G League Winter Showcase in Las Vegas, Nevada. He went 5-of-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in 24 minutes.

The 25th pick appeared in his second game with Austin after missing six weeks due to a Grade 3 sprained left MCL. He looked to be a bit rusty after struggling to shoot some but was active in getting into the paint and finishing at the rim.

Wesley debuted with Austin on Friday, recording 12 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal in a loss to the Mexico City Capitanes. He was on a restriction of 20 minutes in that contest as it was his first game back since Oct. 30.

He will play again with Austin on Wednesday to wrap up its stay in Las Vegas and then likely join San Antonio on its road trip either in New Orleans or Orlando. From there, Wesley could work his way back into the rotation off the bench.

The 19-year-old appeared in two games with San Antonio prior to his knee injury. The upcoming slate will give him the opportunity to continue to rehab from the injury and get back to 100% on the court.
