Sports shorts: Lodi takes consolation at Clayton Valley Charter Tournament

Dec. 18—The Lodi High boys basketball team won the consolation championship of the Clayton Valley Charter Tournament on Saturday, beating Everett Alvarez 69-51 behind 16 points from Sean Tetz and 15 from Noah Rivera.

Giuseppe Guidi added 12 points, Drew Tetz had 11, Matt Shinn had 6, Nathan Morse had 3, and Connor Overbo, Alex Sauseda and Jens Bennitt each scored 2.

In the second round on Friday, Lodi took down Pinole valley 74-67 with a 28-point night from Guidi. Sean Tetz scored 18, Morse had 11, Drew Tetz had 7, Rivera had 6 and Shinn had 4.

Lodi, ranked No. 9 in Maxpreps.com's Sac-Joaquin Section Division II ranking with a 6-3 record, will play at Manteca today.

Varsity boys: Liberty Ranch 62, Dixon 30

The Hawks held Dixon to single digits in each quarter of Saturday's non-league game, with 13 points each from Andrew Cadiz and Elliott Hawker and 10 from Yousef Diab.

On Friday, Liberty Ranch took down previously-undefeated Escalon in another non-league game.

The Hawks (5-8) will play this week in the Joe Bowers Memorial Tournament at Bradshaw Christian in Sacramento, starting Wednesday with a game against Vista del Lago.

Varsity boys: Tokay 83, Modesto 65

The Tigers won their second straight game on Friday to pull one game away from .500, with 22 points from Jacob Ray, 15 from John Carlo Agbayani, 14 from Zeeshaun Akbar, 9 from Jason Hallstrom, 6 from Hashir Khan, 5 from Baris Barakaci, 4 each from Abdullah munir and Marcus Shoneff, and 2 each from Maeher Dhaliwal and Felix Millan.

Tokay (6-7) was scheduled to play at Center on Monday.

Varsity boys: Hughson 76, Galt 25

The Warriors took a loss on Saturday at the Delhi Winter Classic, with 13 points from Wilson Garcia, 6 points and 14 rebounds from Zavion Mitchell, and 6 points from Rafael Almodovar.

JV boys: Tokay 37, Modesto 30

Asher Pitchford led the Tigers with 11 points in Friday's victory, along with 8 from Noah Gutierrez, 7 from Adrian Vasquez, 3 each from Jackson Batch, Christian Mitchell and Joseph Rodriguez, and 2 from Anthony Aguilar.

Freshman boys: Modesto 43, Tokay 33

Tanjiro Wallace led the Tigers with 14 points on Friday, along with 7 from Tristan Domingo, 6 from Adeeb Totakhil, 3 from Nathan Nash and 2 from Amir El Kheidi.

WRESTLING

Varsity girls: Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions

A trio of local teams competed in this 96-team tournament in Rocklin, with Tokay placing 14th at 83 points, Lodi 20th at 69 points, and Liberty Ranch 79th with 17 points.

Two Tokay wrestlers medaled, with Kayleen Tuavao winning the 155-pound division with five straight pins, including a pin of Davis' Avangeline Turner in the championship.

Kelly Meehan reached the semifinals at 145 before losing three matches to place sixth.

Other Tokay wrestlers included Dayanarah Resendiz (3-2 at 120 pounds), Shantel Ambriz (2-2 at 105), Jayda Perez (2-2 at 125), Christina Ochoa (1-2 at 120), Olivia Hunt (1-2 at 125), and Skyla Rivera (1-2 at 140).

Lodi had three wrestlers place — Azaria Biegler went 5-2 for fourth place at 126, Jayda VanSteenberge went 5-2 for fourth place at 131, and Jocelyn Shelley went 4-2 for fifth place at 121.

For Liberty Ranch, Veronika Shayhen went 4-2 at 125, and Anastasia Richardson went 1-2 at 115.

JV boys: Tokay JV Tournament

Lodi and Tokay were among 11 teams competing at Tokay on Saturday.

For Tokay, two wrestlers won their divisions, with Gari Herrera notching two pins and a win by decision at 140-147, and Michael Navas with two pins and a tech fall at 152-156.

Others in the top three included, in second place: Jonah Rosa at 106-112, Erik Lozada-Hernandez at 152-156 and Jordan Abernathie at 152-156; and in third place: Christian Sandoval at 119-125, Juan Hernandez at 125-135, Lamberto Flores at 162-174, Haris Idrees at 166-174, Clinton Smith at 170-181, Julien Castro at 180-190 and Elijah Davis 3rd at 224-184.

Lodi had three champions in Victor Hernandez at 147-159, John Cloyne at 162-174 and Brody Silveira at 170-181. In second place were Ethan Wise at 128-136, Joaquin Yepez at 148-152 and Tony Ortiz at 187-204, and in third place were Dominic Guana at 133-138 and Henry Riggins at 134-142.

SOCCER

Varsity boys; Galt 2, Turlock 2

The Warriors took the first blemish on their perfect record with Saturday's tie, but are still undefeated at 6-0-1. Miguel Garcia scored both of Galt's goals, with both assists from Vicente Marquez.

Galt will host Florin today.

Varsity girls: Tokay 4, East Union 3

The Tigers scored all of their goals in the first half on Friday — 2 from Gabriela Gonzalez, a goal and 2 assists from Ilena Guzman, and a goal from Chloe Lowe. Hannah Dickinson tallied 7 saves.

Tokay (5-2-3) was scheduled to play at Liberty Ranch on Monday, followed by a Thursday home game against Galt.

Varsity girls: Lodi 5, Stagg 0

The Flames got back on the shutout train on Friday, while spreading the goals around on offense. Samantha Stone, Madison Fitzer, Jocelyn Maldonado, Irisela Brunskill and Isabella DaValle each scored, with assists from Stone, Fitzer, Isabella Coughlin and Sabrina Rodriguez.

Lodi (9-2-1) will host Laguna Creek today.
