The Golden Eagles (1-2) went 4-4 in their new conference last season, earning a bowl appearance after a win at ULM in the final game of the regular season.
USM hopes to continue that positive trajectory Saturday evening at Arkansas State (1-2). Southern Miss has dropped its last two games, but a win over the Red Wolves could angle the team in the right direction.
