Lincoln coach reaches 200 wins, and other girls basketball results from Tuesday

Here are the girls basketball and boys swimming results around Springfield for Monday and Tuesday:

Tuesday's results

LINCOLN 73, MOUNT ZION 43: At Roy S. Anderson Gym in Lincoln, the Railers built a 20-point halftime lead and went on to record a nonconference win.

Lincoln improved to 23-0 and gave coach Taylor Rohrer her 200th victory. Kloe Froebe ended with a game-high 36 points and Jenna Bowman was next with 17 for the Railers.

PLEASANT PLAINS 53, ATHENS 35: At the Sangamon County Tournament in Riverton, Anna Weber delivered 19 points and the Cardinals advanced to Thursday’s championship game.

Plains went into halftime with a 26-14 lead after Bailey Leach nailed a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer. Grace Sabatka and Leach ended with nine points apiece and Madison Burke contributed eight for Plains.

Ellie Westervelt drained six 3s and provided Athens with a team-high 18 points.

WILLIAMSVILLE 45, AUBURN 38: At the Sangamon County Tournament in Riverton, Williamsville overcame a four-point deficit after three quarters and moved on to play Pleasant Plains for the title on Thursday.

Williamsville trailed 28-24 before outscoring Auburn 21-10 in the fourth quarter. Charlene Gleason had 10 points in the fourth quarter and 16 in the second half to end with 20 for Williamsville. Teammate Naomi Roberts had seven points in the fourth and finished with 12, while Cora Senalik added nine.

Callie Gill was the leading scorer for Auburn with nine points and teammate Grayson Allen hit a 3 and added seven.

GILLESPIE 60, CARLINVILLE 43: At the Macoupin County Tournament, Gillespie seized control by outscoring Carlinville 25-8 in the third period of the semifinals.

Mia Brawner had 12 points and Delaney Taylor knocked down two 3-pointers in the third stanza. Brawner had 17 second-half points and finished with three 3s to lead all scorers with 21 points. Taylor nailed four 3s and scored 14 and Erika Gill followed with 10 points.

Isabella Tiburzi made three field goals and went 9-for-10 from the foul line to lead Carlinville with 15 points. Kaitlyn Reels and Braley Wiser made three treys apiece and each finished with nine points for the Cavaliers, who trailed 20-17 at the half.    

BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING

Senators beat Cyclones in dual

Springfield High defeated Sacred Heart-Griffin 125-34 in a boys swimming and diving dual meet on Tuesday at Eisenhower Pool.

Springfield seniors Will Hovey and Logan Allen each won two individual events and both swam on a pair of winning relays. Hovey won the 100-yard butterfly (58.70 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:06.81) and Allen had victories in the 50 freestyle (23.52) and 100 freestyle (52.69).

Hovey and Allen teamed up with sophomore Riley Herr and freshman James Maeda to win the 200 medley relay. Junior Rohan Ugrappa joined Hovey, Allen and Maeda to win the 400 freestyle relay. Freshman Kishan Ugrappa swam the third leg and joined Herr, Maeda and Rohan Ugrappa in the victorious 200 freestyle relay.

Maeda won the 200 IM (2:13.80), Herr touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.81) and Rohan Ugrappa finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.10). Sophomore Andrew Kotner had a score of 202.10 for Springfield and claimed first place in the 1-meter diving event.

SHG junior David Reichensperger was the lone competitor in the 500 freestyle and collected six points for the Cyclones.

Monday's results

SOUTHEAST 53, LANPHIER 27: At the new Lober-Nika Gymnasium, Marisa Gant poured in 23 points while Navehua Collins had 14 points in the MLK Shootout victory.

Gant shot 7 of 12 from the field, 2 of 3 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. She also had six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Collins drained two 3s and had six steals to boot.

Aubrey Beavers and Angel Price had seven points apiece for Lanphier (4-13).

LINCOLN 76, CHICAGO KENWOOD 54: At Lisle Benet, Kloe Froebe totaled 25 points and nine rebounds in the Kipps Hoopsfest victory.

Lincoln, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, improved to 22-0 overall.

WILLIAMSVILLE 55, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 13: At the Sangamon County Tournament in Riverton, Charlene Gleason mustered 14 of her game-hight 20 points in the first half and the Bullets rolled to Tuesday’s semifinal against Auburn at 7:30 p.m.

Naomi Roberts knocked down three 3s and finished with 13 points.

AUBURN 48, PAWNEE/LUTHERAN 25: At the Sangamon County Tournament, Addison Wheatley (16 points) and Karlissa Clark (10 points) combined for 26 points in the win. Chloe Crissey added seven points.

Ava Rodriguez-Mansholt led Pawnee with 11 points.

ATHENS 31, RIVERTON 25: At the Sangamon County Tournament, Zoe Laird chalked up 12 points to vault the Warriors to Tuesday’s semifinal against top-seeded Pleasant Plains at 6 p.m.

Plains had a bye in the tournament.

Emerson Lane contributed eight points for Athens. Jordyn Durham and Brandy Petitt led the Hawks with nine and eight points, respectively.

CARLINVILLE 50, BUNKER HILL 17: At the Macoupin County Tournament hosted by Piasa Southwestern, Jordyn Loveless tallied 14 of her 16 points in the first half en route to a win.

Isabella Tiburzi and Taylor Brandenburg had 11 and eight points, respectively.

GILLESPIE 75, MOUNT OLIVE 24: At the Macoupin County Tournament, six different players contributed at least eight points in the win for the Miners.

Mia Brawner scored all of her team-high 12 points in the first half. Delaney Taylor and Amari Vickery delivered 11 and 10 points, respectively. Sloane Brawner added nine points with two 3s. Becca Crays and Maggie Heyen had eight points apiece.

PETERSBURG PORTA 56, WARRENSBURG-LATHAM 18: At Warrensburg, Carson Arthalony went 9 of 12 from the floor and generated 20 points for the 2A No. 7 Bluejays (22-1).

Jayce Privia hit two 3s and finished with 12 points while Karlie Hoke and Cassie Cox supplied 11 and nine points, respectively.

HAVANA 42, PEORIA HEIGHTS 34: At Havana, Josie Hughes fired up 15 of her game-hight 21 points in the second half.

Jaylynn Sarnes added eight points. The Ducks rallied from a 27-23 deficit after three quarters.
