South Plains rain storm impacts several Lubbock-area baseball playoff series

A number of playoff games being played in the Lubbock area have been impacted by storms that swept through the South Plains on Thursday.

The New Home-Sundown Region I-2A quarterfinal doubleheader at Frenship was suspended in the bottom of the third inning with the Leopards leading 6-1. The teams are tentatively scheduled to resume play at 9 p.m. tonight.

The Shallowater-Littlefield game at Lubbock-Cooper didn't make it through a half-inning before being suspended. Game one of that Class 3A series will pick up Friday at noon. The Wildcats will have runners at first and second with two outs when play resumes.

Thursday was also supposed to see the start of Region I-5A quarterfinal series between Lubbock-Cooper and Monterey at Dan Law Field. That series was shifted early in the afternoon in anticipation of the weather.

Cooper and Monterey will now begin the series Friday at 7 p.m. Game two is slated for 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a third game to follow if necessary.

The Region I-1A semifinal between Nazareth and Morton has also been postponed. The two teams were unable to start the first game of their series at Littlefield on Thursday and will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Friday.
