Sources: Warriors, guard Quinn Cook nearing agreement on new deal

The Golden State Warriors and two-way guard Quinn Cook are nearing agreement on a new multiyear contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Cook has earned a spot on the Warriors’ postseason roster and is expected to enter the playoffs as the team’s starting point guard in Stephen Curry’s absence. The Warriors and Cook have been seriously discussing a new deal this week, league sources said.

Golden State must sign Cook to a standard NBA deal before the end of the regular season and waive a player to create a roster spot. Cook has averaged 8.9 points and 2.5 assists in 29 games (14 starts) this season for Golden State. He signed a one-year, two-way contract to join the Warriors in free agency.

Curry suffered an MCL injury in his left knee and will be re-evaluated April 14.

Cook, 25, has served as a reliable player and teammate in his two NBA seasons. He went undrafted in 2016 out of Duke, where he won a national championship.
