Source: 3 Kansas basketball players mentioned in KU PD incident report aren't in trouble

LAWRENCE — Three Kansas basketball players named in a KU police department incident report of a report of an alleged rape late last month on Naismith Drive, near Allen Fieldhouse, are not in any trouble with the school or athletics department, a source told The Topeka Capital-Journal on Friday.

Johnny Furphy, Nicolas Timberlake and Elmarko Jackson were listed as either witness or other in the incident report, in addition to two other people.

“We are aware of the investigation and have nothing further to report at this time,” a Douglas County District Attorney’s Office public information officer said Friday in an email.

The offense is alleged to have taken place the morning of Aug. 26, with the address in the report lining up with that of McCarthy Hall. The report was taken by KUPD on Aug. 27.

Furphy, Timberlake and Jackson all participated during Kansas’ “Boot Camp” workouts this week. All three are listed on the Jayhawks’ online roster. There has not been any public mention of a suspension for any of them.

Another player, Arterio Morris, has been suspended from the program, a KU athletics spokesperson confirmed earlier this month to The Topeka Capital-Journal. The spokesperson did not confirm the reason for his suspension

According to a report from the Kansas City Star, the suspension came after Morris was accused of rape. Morris isn’t listed in the incident report, which was obtained Thursday by The Topeka Capital-Journal in response to an open records request. Morris, a transfer from Texas, is still listed on the KU roster on the school's athletics website.

The name and other identifying information about the alleged victim are redacted in the report, as are the address, dates of birth and phone numbers of those listed as a witnesses or "other" in the police report.

In the police incident report, there’s a note in the “type of force/weapon” section that highlights “personal weapon.” Other than that, there aren’t many details about what allegedly occurred.
