Soccer, volleyball, football stars among Athlete of the Week nominees

It is time once again to vote for Athlete of the Week.

Congratulations to last week’s winners, Quincy Weymouth of CMR golf and John Spinti of Great Falls High cross country.

Each week during competition, two girls and two boys will be nominated, with the audience choosing the winner via poll.

Athletic directors, coaches, parents, and fans are encouraged to send in Athlete of the Week nominations for competitors in all sports in northcentral Montana. Nominations can be sent to sports reporter Grady Higgins at ghiggins@greatfallstribune.com.

Voting on this week’s poll will be open until Friday at 11:59 p.m., and the winners of the vote will be announced in the following week’s Athlete of the Week story.

Here are this week’s nominees for the boys:

Andrew Schoenen, Great Falls High soccer: The senior goalkeeper made a save on a penalty kick in extra time against Belgrade last Tuesday in extra time, preserving a 2-1 victory for the Bison.

Keegan Fuller, CMR football: The junior tailback led the Rustler offense with 157 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a win over Belgrade Friday.

Here are the nominees for the girls:

Elie Hutchins, Centerville volleyball: Hutchins helped pace the Miners’ 3-1 win over North Star on Friday, putting up 37 assists.

Lillian Skaer, CMR soccer: The junior booted a goal in the first two minutes against Belgrade last week to give the Rustlers the lead for good in a 2-0 victory.
