Sixers guard Seth Curry always knew he could play, start in the NBA

Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry comes from an NBA family. His father, Dell, was a great player for the Charlotte Hornets, and his brother, Stephen, is one of the all-time great shooters in NBA history.

However, Seth’s career did not exactly start off well in the league.

After going undrafted out of Duke in 2013, he spent time in the G League and he played a total of four games across his first two seasons in the league. He then got a chance with the Sacramento Kings in the 2015-16 season to begin building his name and his career and he took off from there as he shot 45% from deep.

He then played for the Dallas Mavericks the following season, spent a year with the Portland Trail Blazers, back to Dallas, and he is now in Philadelphia. Despite all of the challenges Curry has faced, he always knew he could play in this league.

“I always knew I was good enough,” he explained. “It was just a matter of getting an opportunity and making the most of it. Just maximizing what I do best and getting the opportunity to show that at the NBA level and being consistent with it. That’s pretty much it just stay in the game, working hard in the offseason, and during the season to stay sharp. Just making the most of the opportunity whenever I do get it.”

Philadelphia is giving him his first chance as a starter in this league. He started all 57 games he played in during the regular season plus all seven games of the postseason thus far.

He has made a big impact on the floor in his first season with the Sixers shooting 45% from deep during the regular season and he’s shooting 66.7% from deep to begin their Round 2 series with the Atlanta Hawks.

“I’m just doing what I’ve done my whole career,” he added. “I don’t think I had one of my best shooting regular seasons, to be honest, I had a couple of bad stretches, but I just keep it simple and do what I do. When the minutes stack up, your numbers are gonna elevate a little bit. So just keep it simple, do what I do best out on the floor, and just try to help my team win.”

For some, this would be a monumental achievement in a career. To go from the G League to a starter and key player on a title contender is a huge accomplishment, but Curry has his eyes on a bigger prize. At this moment, it’s all about winning in this postseason.

“I’m just locked in on what I got to do every night on the floor, to be honest,” he finished. “It’s no different than what I’ve done last year in the playoffs or whatever. Just focus on every single day and get better in practice that day, we got to do that night to win the game. At the end of the season, I’ll look back on everything, but right now I’m locked in on the process.”
