Sister Jean, Loyola Chicago's 98-year-old team nun, has Tennessee thoroughly scouted

Ahead of Loyola Chicago’s round-of-32 matchup with Tennessee, is there anybody you’d rather hear a Vols scouting report from than Sister Jean?

Loyola gave us one of the best moments of the tournament so far when Donte Ingram drilled a last-second 3-pointer to give the 11th-seeded Ramblers a dramatic 64-62 upset win over Miami on Thursday. And as soon as the game ended, cameras panned to Sister Jean Dolores Smith, Loyola’s 98-year-old team chaplain.

But Sister Jean is more than just a fan of the Missouri Valley Conference champions. She provides scouting reports for the team. Here’s her rundown of South Region No. 3 seed Tennessee, which is coming off a comfortable first-round victory over Wright State:

Sister Jean wants her Ramblers to keep a close eye on Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield and Lamonte Turner, the Vols’ top three scorers. She also noted UT’s overall size, physicality and defensive abilities.

Above all, she thinks another upset is on the horizon for Loyola.

“We are going to be focused and we are going to keep our heads and our hearts into the game,” she said. “We’re asking God to help us and we’re going to play our very best so at the end of the game we’ll have that big W and go onto the Sweet 16 as we hoped we would.”
