Serah Williams ties program record for double-doubles, but slow start dooms Wisconsin on the road

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team started slowly Sunday and never fully recovered.

Northwestern scored the first nine points and never trailed on the way to a 69-43 win over the Badgers at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Illinois.

Sophomore guard Caroline Lau hit all nine of her shots, including four from three-point range, to lead the Wildcats (8-14, 3-8 Big Ten) to their second victory over UW this season. Her 24 points led all scorers.

BOX SCORE: Northwestern 69, Wisconsin 43

Seven of her points came in the first quarter when the Wildcats led by as many as many as 10 points. Wisconsin (10-11, 3-8) pulled no closer than six points the rest of the contest.

Despite the loss, sophomore Serah Williams (11 points, 11 rebounds) recorded her eighth straight double-double to tie the program record set by Milwaukee native Theresa Huff during the 1982-83 season.

Sophomore Ronnie Porter and Brooke Schramek were next in line with nine points for the Badgers. The team, which shot 26% (16 of 62), lost starter Natalie Leuzinger late in the first quarter after she appeared to take an elbow to the face.
