Senators honour Jonathan Pitre in emotional tribute
Last April, the inspirational teenager who fought one of the most painful diseases known to medicine with incredible courage, drive and selflessness, and with his battle inspired the Ottawa Senators and so many others in the hockey community, succumbed to complications involved with his treatment for epidermolysis bullosa.
On Thursday, Ottawa said goodbye to Jonathan Pitre.
An emotional tribute for Pitre was shown before the team’s season opener versus the Chicago Blackhawks, highlighting his special moments with the organization — including speaking on stage at the NHL Awards and being named an honorary scout — as well as his unthinkable struggle.
Following the tribute, Pitre’s mother, Tina Boileau, was on hand to drop the puck for the ceremonial faceoff.

Senators players wore stickers on their helmets to honour Pitre after his passing at the end of last season.
Jonathan and his family’s profound impact on the organization will endure.
The Senators will award the Jonathan Pitre Memorial Trophy every summer to the hardest working prospect at their development camp.
