Section V football: Final scores, recaps, highlights from Week 1

Welcome back to Friday night football in Section V.

Brighton and Victor showed that they are contenders in Class A on opening night Thursday, but there's a huge slate of games Friday in Week 1 of the high school football season.

This page will be updated throughout out the night with scores, highlights and stats from the slate of games.

Section V's top performances Friday: Hilton's Robert Lowry electric with 207 yards, 3 TDs

Section V's top games from Friday: UPrep explodes for 33 straight points at Aquinas

Final score: Hilton 21, Pittsford 6

Senior running back Robert Lowry was electric with three rushing touchdowns of 80, 78 and 14 yards, and Hilton's defense bottled up Pittsford in a season-opening victory. The Cadets were Section V champions and state semifinalists last year but a showing they are still tough in Class AA.

Final score: Canandaigua 27, Spencerport 3

Canandaigua pulled away in the second half and finished the game with 27 unanswered points.

Final score: Irondequoit 52, Greece Athena 21

Irondequoit jumped out to a 38-0 halftime lead against Greece Athena. Th Eagles racked up 347 rushing yards. Myles Wynn ran for 136 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries for Irondequoit.

Brockport trying to mount a comeback

Nathan Parker ran 30 yards for a touchdown for Brockport, which trails Webster Schroeder 35-21 with 9:01 let.

Robert Lowry scores third rushing touchdown against Pittsford

Robert Lowry scored again. Lowry found a hole and ran for a 14-yard touchdown on third-and-4 with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. Lowry also has rushing touchdowns of 80 and 78 yards. Hilton lead 21-6.

Pittsford scores on final play of third quarter against Hilton

Running back Jaxon Bernas broke a tackle, bounced outside and ran for a 15-yard touchdown to pull Pittsford to within 14-6. Pittsford marched down the field with smash mouth football between the tackles on the drive.

Canandaigua pulling away from Spencerport

Dom Gullace scored on a long touchdown run to give Canandaigua a 20-3 lead late in the third quarter.

Final score: University Prep 33, Aquinas 7

The Griffins scored 33 unanswered points after falling behind by a touchdown in the first quarter. Quarterback Tavion Byrd had a huge game and the UPrep defense stymied Aquinas and scored a defensive touchdown. University Prep went unbeaten in the regular season last year before winning a playoff game and losing in the Section V Class AA semifinals.

Robert Lowry does it again with long TD run for Hilton

Hilton running back Robert Lowry is electric. Lowry took a handoff 78 yards, used a block from offensive tackle Kyle Serow, and took off for a 78-yard touchdown. Hilton leads 14-0 and Lowry has accounted for all of the scoring. He ran for an 80-yard TD on the first play of the game.

Eastridge scores touchdown to take lead against Webster Thomas

Eastridge quarterback Elijah Harris tossed a 9-yard touchdown to give the Lancers a 9-7 lead. Harris evaded a free rusher, rolled right and flicked a touchdown pass in the back right corner of the end zone.

Halftime: Geneva 24, Penn Yan 0

Halftime: Hilton 7, Pittsford 0

Robert Lowry went 80 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game but it was all defense after that in the first half.

Halftime: Canandaigua 7, Spencerport 3

Spencerport is hanging tough in new head coach Brian Hugelmaier's debut against defending Section V champion Canandaigua. The lone touchdown was a pass from Drew Williamee to Sean Olvany with 3.2 seconds left in the first half.

Webster Schroeder and Brockport trading blows

Landon Scott threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this time a 25-yard score to Jayden Taylor, to slice Brockport's deficit to 21-14 with 2:41 left in the first half. Webster Schroeder had scored 21 straight points for a 21-7 lead.

University Prep takes 27-7 lead on Aquinas with pick six

The Griffins' defense is getting in on the action. Tyrell Simmons, who has already scored twice on offense, pressured Aquinas quarterback Trent Buttles. As Buttles was being dragged down he tried to get rid of the ball but it went straight to Jaylen Singleton, who took the interception 44 yards untouched for the touchdown.

University Prep quarterback Tavion Byrd runs for 85-yard TD

University Prep has scored three straight touchdowns. Byrd kept a read option, ran around left end, used a couple of nice blocks and went 85 yards for the score. The Griffins are up 19-7 on Aquinas.

Webster Schroeder scores on beautiful 61-yard catch-and-run

Webster Schroeder has a lot of production to replace from last year at quarterback and wide receiver. This is a good start. Quarterback Drew Hilfiker completed to Gavin Horton in the flat and Horton did the rest, breaking a tackle and turning on the jets down the right sideline for the long score.

Final score: Pembroke 55, Red Jacket 28 (8-Man football)

Pembroke is 1-0.

Brockport scores on opening possession for 7-0 lead

Landon Scott threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Judd to put Brockport up 7-0 on Webster Schroeder.

Hilton's Robert Lowry opens game with 80-yard touchdown run

Robert Lowry was the lightning in last year's thunder and lightning backfield for last year's Class A champion Hilton. The Cadets struck lightning fast on their first play of the season. Lowry found a hole and sprinted 80 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game.

University Prep takes lead over Aquinas before halftime

University Prep has scored 13 straight points for a 13-7 lead. Wide receiver Tyrell Simmons had the monster play on the scoring drive with a 33-yard reception from Tavion Byrd. Simmons made a catch near the left sideline, pirouetted over an Aquinas defender and then went to work. Simmons stiff-armed a tackler, maneuvered around another, juked another and then lowered his shoulder to lay the boom on another. A group of six tacklers finally brought him down. Byrd and Simmons hooked up for their second touchdown of the game to cap the drive.

Final score: McQuaid 55, Edison 0

McQuaid did what it was supposed to do in Week 1. The Knights overpowered a young and inexperienced Edison team that has one win over the last three years.

University Prep evens score at 7-7 against Aquinas

University Prep responded with a 14-yard touchdown pass to draw even at Aquinas.

Irondequoit offense clicking against Greece Athena

The Eagles are up 16-0 late in the first quarter. Quarterback Taiden Makubire rolled left, planted his feet and threw a strike to an open Jordan Nolan in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown.

McQuaid is near the half century mark ... at halftime

The Knights are up 49-0 against Edison.

Aquinas strikes first against University Prep

Aquinas and University Prep traded defensive stops before Aquinas got on the board. Quarterback Trent Buttles connected with wide receiver Noah Collins-Howard for an 18-yard touchdown pass to put the Little Irish ahead 7-0.

McQuaid off to fast start against Edison

McQuaid is seeking a fifth straight Section V title − which would be a record − and nearly scored five touchdowns in the first half. The Knights are up 28-0 against Edison after the first quarter.
