Shooter opens fire at Las Vegas school; suspect at large

A school shooting in Las Vegas prompted a “hard lockdown” Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred before 1 p.m. local time at Von Tobel Middle School, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

“An adult was struck by gunfire and has been transported to UMC,” cops tweeted.

Police said the unidentified suspect is at large, “but there appears to be no further threat at this time.”

Roads were closed as the manhunt ensues. The victim’s condition, as well as what preceded the shooting, is unclear.

The school’s principal assured parents, “Students are safe in their classroom,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Law enforcement officials said around 1:30 p.m., the school had been “cleared” and a “controlled release of students” was being coordinated.

The bloodiest shooting in American history took place in Las Vegas in October 2017 when a gunman firing through a hotel window killed 60 people and injured hundreds more attending an outdoor music festival.
