Saturday Roundup: Sheridan's Ruthers claims Galion title; JG golfers second at RV Invite

There was plenty of action around the area, and here are Saturday's results:

Cross Country

Sheridan boys take second at Galion Invite: Tate Ruthers, John Skinner and Simon Conrad placed first, second and third in the Division II race, as the Generals were second with 63 points to Shelby's 38.

Ruthers posted a winning time of 16:03 with Skinner finishing in 16:20 and Simon Conrad in 16:37. Hudson Wilson was 26th (17:59) and Henry Taylor 31st (18:17) to round out the Sheridan scoring.

The Sheridan girls were fifth (117) with Nora Covey coming in 14th (20:42), Sheriden Glanemann 15th (20:43), Grace Householder 22nd (21:28), Jenna Stewart 35th (22:33) and Addie Dennis 41st (23:00).

West M, Morgan run at Fairfield Union: The Tornadoes' Jacob Agin came in 35th in 18:13 to highlight the area boys in the Falcon Invitational.

The Raiders' Clark Smith finished 46th (18:27) and Rayden Tom 93rd (19:45) in the boys race, while Morgan's Elana Wilson placed 71st (23:33) and West M's Ayla Mowery took 74th (23:41) to lead the area girls at the event.

River View competes at West Holmes: The River View boys and girls each took seventh at the Nanny Goat Invitational.

Landon Cochran placed 18th (18:51), Trey Skjold came in 20th (18:56) and Aidan Stevens-Woolery took 28th (19:13) to pace the Black Bears, while the Lady Bears were paced by Lydia Black in 14th (22:44), Taryn Tumblin in 42nd (26:18) and Jillian Johnson in 43rd (26:20).

Tri-Valley girls sixth at Newark Invite: Taylor Crozier finished eighth overall in 20:06, as the Scotties were sixth out of 13 teams.

Erin Hogue came in 23rd (21:19) and Peyton Mills 44th (22:16) for the Scottie girls, while the TV boys placed eighth with Dalton Crozier in 19th (17:22), Alexander Hogue 41st (18:24) and William Dearing 53rd (18:46).

Golf

John Glenn second at Black Bear Invite: Noah Dever and Owen Van Fossen each shot 75, as the Muskies totaled 308 to finish second to Hiland's 299 at Hickory Flats.

Braden Rice added a 78 and CJ Dolan an 80 for John Glenn; Thad Cox fired 76 and Caleb Kline 77 for the Black Bears, who did not score; and Meadowbrook took fifth (336) with Ben Coss carding a 74, Damon Baier an 85, Owen Dennis an 88 and Steven Grafton an 89.

West Muskingum came in seventh (351) and was led by Reid Lemity's 79 and Nick Anton's 89; Morgan was 11th (376) with an 86 by Kaden Garrett and a 90; New Lex finished 12th (376), as Rocco Stanton shot 86 and Hunter Heavener a 90; Rosecrans placed 13th (391) behind an 87 by Evan Bauer and a 94 by Logan Brown; and Ridgewood was 16th (431) and paced by Zach Evin with an 87 and Gage Gress with 103.

Hiland's Camden Bille was medalist with a 70, and locals on the all-tournament team were Coss, Dever, Van Fossen and Cox.

Boys Soccer

John Glenn 5, Athens 5: The Muskies (6-2-1) and Bulldogs (7-1-3) tied in a high-scoring affair, but no other details were available.

River View 3, Zanesville 0: The Black Bears moved to 10-1 with a win over the Blue Devils, but no other details were available.

Rosecrans 5, Cambridge 0: Eli Swingle notched a hat trick and Tizian Schmelzer and Steven Porter also scored in the Bishops' win.

Grady Labishak and Logan Brown assisted on goals and Porter made four saves.

Girls Soccer

Philo 6, Harrison Central 0: Victoria Ligon scored twice to lead the Electrics in a shutout win over the Huskies.

Sophie Saunders, Lia Unger, Angie Myers and Emmy Reed added goals and Scarlett Shanks and Kam Smith combined for the shutout in goal.

Zanesville 3, Maysville 0: Aubri Cooke, Kallie Dickinson and Rylee McCuen scored goals and keeper Reyna Dalton posted the shutout, as the Lady Devils improved to 3-5.

West Holmes 4, John Glenn 1: Allie McMillen knocked in two goals and assisted Averee Troyer's goal as the Knights led 3-1 at the half.

Riley Zamensky had the Muskies' only goal with 3:21 left in the first half, while Faith Lemon had nine saves on 13 WH shots.

Charli Murphy added a goal in the second half and Brianna Parks made five stops for the Knights. Avery Arnold also had an assist in the win.

Tusky Valley 8, Ridgewood 2: The Trojans rolled past the Generals.

Hamilton Township 2, Rosecrans 1: The Bishops fell on the road to the Rangers.

Volleyball

New Lexington 25, 25, 25, Athens 21, 20, 17: Trinity Cook collected 15 kills, five blocks and two aces and Jorja Burkhart set up 30 assists with two aces, as the Panthers swept the Bulldogs.

Chloe Dick chipped in 12 kills, seven digs and two aces, Gracie Newlon had six digs with three aces and Abby Wilson made five blocks with four kills in the victory.

Buckeye Trail 25, 25, 25, St. Clairsville 12, 13, 11: The Warriors swept the Red Devils in non-league play on Saturday to improve to 8-3 on the season.

Grace Shipe tallied a game high 21 points, three aces, six digs with 18 assists to lead Buckeye Trail. Sydney Patterson added seven points, four aces, 13 digs and two assists. Anna McVicker finished with seven points, 14 digs, eight assists, 17 kills, while Ally Carpenter contributed six points, 12 digs and four kills for the winners.

Buckeye Trail returns to IVC play Tuesday, hosting Tuscarawas Central Catholic at 6 p.m.

Indian Valley 25, 20, 25, 27, Coshocton 17, 25, 19, 25: Leah Mathias hit 12 kills and Jaeli Tiedt led the defense with 20 digs, as the Redskins (5-7) fell to the state-ranked Braves (11-1).

Lacey Guthrie and Kenidi Jackson also produced double-figures with 10 kills each, the setting tandem of Guthrie and Lilah Laaper recorded 21 and 20 assists, respectively, and Jackson added 15 and Guthrie and Saige Abbott dug up 14 Indian Valley attacks.

College Sports

Muskingum Football 45, Capital 38: Doug Crawford hit Ja'Lin Goodman for a 34-yard scoring strike with 2:55 left to secure a 3-0 start for the Muskies.

Crawford went 28-of-37 for 347 yards and three TDs and ran for 106 yards and three scores to pace the offense, while Goodman, who had a pair of TD receptions, and Zuri Edmondson each caught seven passes for 112 yards and Gannon Unger had eight catches for 61 yards.

Ben Everson was 18-of-34 for 334 yards with four TDs for Capital.

Toleo Malone had six tackles, three for a loss, Garrett Gurney made five stops and Austin Wilforth had four tackles with a sack to lead the Muskie defense.

Muskingum Volleyball 25, 25, 25, Earlham 19, 16, 17: Mackenzie Krous delivered a game-high 15 kills and Khloe Taylor added six kills to the Muskie net attack.

Chloe Burton and Alexis Bradley each registered 12 assists to direct the attack; Burton also added a game-high 18 digs; and Katharine Clayton aided the defensive effort with 15 digs.

Muskingum women's soccer 3, Bluffton 1: Morgan Meisel scored twice and Hannah Ritchie added a goal in the win.

Bluffton men 3, Muskingum 1: Mahfuz Yakubu had the Muskies' long tally in the loss.
