Santa Paula boys team secures overall title at Citrus Coast League track finals

The Santa Paula High boys team won the overall Citrus Coast League championship while the Nordhoff boys team finished first at the Citrus Coast League Track and League Finals at Carpinteria on Thursday.

Santa Paula, Channel Islands and Fillmore were tied for first place after the regular-season meets going into the finals. The Cardinals earned 109 points to secure the overall championship. Nordhoff won the meet with 130 points and Channel Islands was third with 103, followed by Fillmore (86), Carpinteria (48), Malibu (30), and Hueneme (27).

Arturo Alcaraz won his second league title in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 6.75 inches, Nick Lopez won the 100 hurdles (18.0 seconds) and set the league record in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.65, Diego Rodriguez won the 800 (2:02.18), and Rodrigo Mendez won the triple jump (37-6) to lead the Cardinals.

For Nordhoff, Corbyn Mitrany won the 100 (11.34) and 200 (22.90), Caden Bruchey won the high jump (5-10), Sylvan Luce-Epstein won the long jump (20-1.5), and Joaquin Fontan won the 400 (52.80). Quentin Giesea Obeck, Carlos Valadez, Bruchey and Mitrany won the 4x100 relay in 44.58 and Obeck, Joaquin Fontan, Mitrany and Adrian Vega won the 4x400 relay in 3:34.07.

Anthony Tafoya of Fillmore won boys discus (147-5).

J.R. Lesher of Hueneme won the 3,200 (9:25.52).

Uriel Texis of Channel Islands won the 1,600 (4:31.51).

The Carpinteria girls team won the meet with 169.5 points to take the overall league championship.

Fillmore finished second in the meet with 110.5 points, followed by Santa Paula (92), Nordhoff (69), Malibu (46.5), Channel Islands (32.5), and Hueneme (13).

Santa Paula's Lisset Magana was named the league MVP after winning the 200 (26.1) and 400 (1:00.38). Miahnna Galvan won the 800 (2:27.25) for the Cardinals.

For Fillmore, Nataly Vigil was a double distance champion, winning the 1,600 (5:26.57) and 3,200 (12:12.90). The Flashes' Janessa Corona, Mia Munoz, Sarah Cedillos and Karinna Magana won the 4x100 relay in 51.93.

Eva Sobenes of Nordhoff won the pole vault (10-3).
