The New Orleans Saints offence is the one thing that looks solidified going into the regular season. Drew Brees’ favorite offensive lineman, Terron Armstead, was locked up to an extension just months ago. Now, the team has decided that the other anchor to their offensive line needed a call.

Herbie Teope from NOLA.com reported the news that Max Unger was re-signed to a three-year extension:

No doubt that Unger earned this extension, and it’s yet another key player on the Saints roster that will stay here for the long-term. He and Armstead will continue to hold one of the NFL’s best offensive lines that helped Drew Brees lead the NFL in passing yards in 2015. At 37-years-of-age, Brees will need all of the help he can get from his linemen.

The next order of business will be for Mickey Loomis to extend Brees; it’s a surprise to many that it still hasn’t been done. But having Unger and Armstead locked up ensures that Brees will have nice protection for the rest of his career.

Down the road, Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead and Brees look to be the next in line for big extensions. Loomis has a done a great job keeping his best players in New Orleans for the long run, and Unger is one of the team’s most overlooked players that deserves this.
