Saints offensive line ranked well by PFF

The New Orleans Saints have always had a dangerous offense under Drew Brees, and much of that stems from having one of the league’s most stout and consistent offensive lines.

The offensive line helped Drew Brees lead the NFL in passing yards, and the ground game also stayed consistent. Max Unger and Terron Armstead round out the core of the men in the trenches, and it’s helped Brees play at a high level as he hits his late 30s.

But the Saints offensive line may not be as elite as you think. Pro Football Focus ranked it eighth-overall, even though PFF also ranked their offensive line as the third-best from 2015. Interesting to fall five spots.

Here’s what PFF said:

“Terron Armstead was tied for the second-best pass-blocking efficiency among OTs last year, center Max Unger had his best season since 2009 in terms of pass-blocking (though his run-blocking didn’t live up to its reputation), and Andrus Peat is expected to improve after an average rookie campaign.”

Only six teams allowed less sacks to their quarterbacks than the Saints (32.)

Then again, these rankings don’t really matter for the Saints. All that matters is that they have one of the best in the NFL. As Brees gets up there in age, keeping him away from pressure and hits remains crucial.

With the Saints playing in a tough NFC South that features the Carolina Panthers’ elite pass-rush and the Atlanta Falcons revamped defensive line, the task of keeping Brees protected will be as hard as ever.

But they’re up for the challenge.
