Runner-up regional finish sends Purdue women's golf to NCAA Championships

Purdue briefly vaulted to the top of the leaderboard during Wednesday's NCAA women's golf regional in Nevada.

Arkansas would eventually reclaim the top spot at Spanish Trail Country Club, but the Boilermakers put together a solid three-day performance nonetheless.

On the strength of a record-matching performance on Tuesday, followed by a hot start in Wednesday's final round, Purdue finished runner-up at the Las Vegas Regional.

The Boilermakers advance to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa outside of San Diego on May 17-22.

Arkansas' round one score of 280 was four strokes better than Purdue's 284 on Monday. That ended up being the difference.

On Tuesday, Purdue matched a program NCAA low for any NCAA tournament and was the lowest any Purdue team ever shot in a regional round when the Boilers went 8-under 280.

With its best regional showing since 2013, Purdue, the 2010 NCAA champion, makes its 19th appearance in the NCAA Championships.

Momo Sugiyami was one-over par and placed 11th, while Ashley Kozlowski finished two-over and placed 13th. Jocelyn Bruch gave the Boilermakers an early boost in Wednesday's final round with a hole in one on Spanish Trail's par-3, 210-yard seventh hole.
