Rory McIlroy makes 2024 Masters cut at 5-over-par, one year after missing it in search of career Grand Slam

Rory McIlroy's pursuit of becoming golf's sixth "Grand Slam" winner will live on two more days.

One year after missing the cut at the 2023 Masters tournament, McIlroy made it this year at Augusta National Golf Club with a 5-over-par score through the first two rounds.

Fighting through adversity throughout the day — most notably on the back nine with a double bogey on Hole 11 and a bogey on Hole 14 — McIlroy was on the hinge of making the cut as the sun began to set at Augusta National Golf Club.

But by making par on each of his final four holes, coupled with getting some cushion as the cut line extended to 6-over par late into the day, McIlroy was able to recover and stay above the line to extend his stay at The Masters.

"Tough day, really tough day. Just hard to make a score and just sort of trying to make as many pars as possible," McIllroy said after finishing the day. "I felt like I did okay. I made that bogey on 14 and even just to par the last four holes. Get in the clubhouse (now) and have a tee time tomorrow, I'm sort of pretty happy with."

He will now head into Saturday's third round 5-over 149 and tied for 35th place.
