Rookie Report: Warriors’ Patrick Baldwin Jr. tallies 17 points off bench vs. Nets

With multiple players out due to injury, Wednesday’s contest against the Brooklyn Nets opened up roles for the Golden State Warriors’ core of young players.

Although the Warriors suffered another blowout loss on the road, Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman, Moses Moody, and both rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins all received minutes on Wednesday night in Brooklyn.

With opportunity, a pair of Golden State’s prospects registered new career highs in scoring. While Wiseman led the Warriors with 30 points against the Nets, Baldwin Jr. also recorded an impressive performance on Wednesday night.

Baldwin Jr. tallied a career-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with three rebounds in 23 minutes against the Nets. The rookie forward caught fire from deep, drilling a career-high five 3-pointers on eight attempts from beyond the arc on Wednesday.

Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Nets, Baldwin Jr. has only totaled five made 3-pointers on the season. Baldwin Jr.’s barrage from deep against the Nets doubled his rookie total from beyond the arc to 10-made triples on the season.

Since being drafted out of UW-Milwaukee in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft, Baldwin Jr. has played in nine games, averaging 4.1 points on 43.3% shooting from the floor with 1.2 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game.

Baldwin Jr. will likely have the opportunity for more minutes if multiple members of the Warriors continue to miss time due to injury. The Warriors will host Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies in a primetime battle on Christmas day in San Francisco.
