This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week is back with another Rocky Mountain hooper!

Lobos girls basketball player Sara Chicco took top honors in the Fort Collins area for Feb. 11-17 after scoring 54 points across two games as Rocky clinched the city title and a home playoff game in a 2-0 week.

Chicco dropped 29 points on Mountain Range and then 25 on city rival Fort Collins in the regular-season finale, draining five 3-pointers in that 52-49 win over the Lambkins.

That helped the Lobos earn a No. 14 seed and the program's first home playoff game since 2018.

The senior guard finished her final season averaging 20.5 points per game with 73 total made 3-pointers while shooting 40% beyond the arc — all top-five marks in Colorado Class 6A.

Chicco is the first girls basketball player to win the honor this season and the fifth basketball player overall, joining these boys: Rocky Mountain's Avantae Hood, Windsor's John Backhaus, Fort Collins' Jayce King and Fossil Ridge's Cayden Clagett.

Chicco won the Blue Federal Credit Union fan poll with a majority vote, as she got 62.3% of the 9,340 votes cast.

That beat out other fantastic performances from her fellow nominees:

  • Ellayna Potter, PSD girls skiing (runner-up with 35%)

  • Billy Greenwood, Poudre boys wrestling

  • Banks Norby, Poudre boys wrestling

  • Braeden Kerr, PSD ice hockey

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.
