Road to Indy: IHSAA baseball draws for Bloomington, Martinsville, Bedford area teams

The IHSAA announced its sectional pairings for baseball on Sunday, so here's a look at how the Bloomington Herald-Times area teams will matchup when play begins the week of May 22-27.

Host schools will announce playing schedules which will then be added to the online brackets at MaxPreps.com the week before the tournament begins. Southern regional sites will be Park Tudor, Mooresville, Morristown, Loogootee, Jasper, Floyd Central, Mitchell and Southridge. A complete list of pairings is available at IHSAA.org.

Class 4A: Bloomington North Sectional

It's a similar draw to last year as Bloomington South (11-3) is once again asked to tackle No. 1 Center Grove (16-1) right off the bat in the semis.

The other side of the bracket sees Bloomington North (6-9) draw the Artesians (2-13) after sweeping their doubleheader on April 13. The first game will have No. 6 Mooresville (13-2) against Greenwood (6-8). Last year, Martinsville upset Mooresville and Greenwood knocked out favored North on opening night.

Regional opener: Vs. Shelbyville Sectional champion.

Class 4A: Seymour Sectional

Bedford North Lawrence (9-5) was handed an opening round game against defending sectional champ Jeffersonville (7-5). The Devils just won their Hoosier Hills contest, 7-3. The other top bracket game as the host Owls (10-3) vs. New Albany (9-7). They split a doubleheader on April 6.

While the winners of those games play each other in the semis, No. 4 Floyd Central (14-2) and Jennings County (3-10) got byes and will square off in the other. The Highlanders, whose only loss to an Indiana team is Columbus North (2-1), won their HHC game, 11-1.

Regional: Vs. Evansville Reitz champion in opener.

Class 3A: Edgewood Sectional

Edgewood (8-3) gets a bye to the semifinals and will face South Vermillion (3-8) for the first time since 2016 when the Wildcats left the Western Indiana Conference.

The top part of the bracket is a bit busier as Owen Valley (4-5) draws Indian Creek (9-1), which is averaging almost 10 runs a game out side of its only loss, which came to 4A No. 1 Center Grove in its county tourney. Their WIC game is May 8. The opener will see West Vigo (6-8) and Northview (8-6) meet. Their WIC game isn't until May 14.

Regional: Vs. Danville Sectional champion in the opener.

Class 2A: Sullivan Sectional

The red-hot T-Birds (9-2) drew rival Linton (5-5) in the opening game, with the other top-bracket matchup pitting rivals. North Knox (4-8 and, South Knox (8-8). Eastern Greene had some success against those three already, scoring 13 vs. the Miners, 14 vs. the Warriors and 21 vs. the Spartans in three wins.

Defending sectional champ No. 6 Mitchell (12-3) and the host Arrows (7-6) will meet in other semi after getting first-round byes.

Regional: Vs. South Spencer Sectional champion in the opener.

Class 2A: Clarksville Sectional

Clarksville (0-12), which has been shut out six times already, got the bye and will wait for the winner between Paoli (5-5) and Eastern (Pekin) (2-7).

Defending champion Providence (10-4) will begin against Crawford County (2-9).

Regional: Vs. South Ripley Sectional champion in opener.

Class 1A: Loogootee Sectional

Orleans (0-11) will get things started with a game against Loogootee (5-5) and they will get a look at each other on May 13. Then in Game 2, it's Shoals (0-7) and North Daviess (6-4). Those winners will meet in the first semifinal.

The second semifinal has powerhouse Barr-Reeve (10-3), last year's state runner-up, meeting Vincennes Rivet (4-8).

Regional: Vs. Northeast Dubois champion in opener.

Class 1A: Northeast Dubois Sectional

Springs Valley (7-5) is the only team here at the moment above .500 and the Hawks have drawn Wood Memorial in the opener. SV had no problems in their April 15 game, winning 13-1. The other first round game has Northeast Dubois (4-7) taking on defending champ Evansville Christian (4-9).

In the lower bracket, drawing byes to the semis were two struggling squads, Cannelton (0-7) and Tecumseh (1-11).

Regional: Vs. Loogootee Sectional champion in opener.
