Riley's Chris Bartmess wins Northern Indiana Conference boys swimming MVP

South Bend Riley's Christopher Bartmess earned two first-team All-Northern Indiana Conference honors and two second-team honors as part of relay teams to win the NIC Most Valuable Player in boys swimming and diving.

Penn High School's Jess Preston was named Coach of the Year.

Bartmess was first-team in the 100 butterfly (49.99) and the 100 breaststroke (56.07) and is a member of the second-team 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Joining Bartmess on the NIC first team are teammates Padraig Chapman (50 freestyle, 21.44) and diver Eliot Riem (344.35).

Penn swept the other eight first-team spots. Nate Temeles is a quadruple first-teamer, in the 200 freestyle (1:45.52), the 100 freestyle (47.12) and swimming legs of the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams.

The 200 freestyle relay (1:27.5) team is made up of Cole Stevenson, Temeles, Seth Werntz and Reid Ohlson. The 400 freestyle relay (3:11.68) is made up of Matthew Weeks, Temeles, Leo Ni and Ohlson. Penn's 200 medley relay (1:33.40) of Chris Oberlie, Stevenson, Ni and Ohlson is also first-team. Stevenson won top honors in the 200 individual medley (1:54.88), Weeks won the 500 freestyle (4:52.69) and Oberlie the 100 backstroke (52.39).
