Report: David Culley to keep Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly

The Houston Texans will keep at least one member of their previous staff as David Culley assembles a new one.

According to Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network, the former Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach and receivers coach will keep current offensive coordinator Tim Kelly on the staff in the same position that he had in 2020 under Bill O’Brien and interim coach Romeo Crennel.

The move will seemingly please quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has had his unaired but hinted grievances with the Texans since their 4-12 finish and hiring of general manager Nick Caserio.

“I mean, Tim over the past two years has really taken my game to a whole another level as far as just knowledge, reading defenses, understanding run points and run schemes, understanding the way of different concepts and different situations,” Watson told reporters on Jan. 4. “His knowledge of just the game of football is very, very bright and he really helped me take my game, especially this year, the best football I’ve played in my career.”

With the hiring of Culley, the Texans are hopeful they can take the next step as an organization and start qualifying for conference title games and beyond.
