Regional champs Alec Terakedis, Xander Heil lead Tuscarawas-area state track qualifers

Claymont's Alec Terakedis, running in the boys 100 meters at the district meet a year ago, won two regional sprint titles Saturday at New Concord.

Claymont High School junior Alec Terakedis won a pair of titles in the Division II regional track and field meet at New Concord on Saturday. Terakedis won regional championships in the boys 100 and 200 meters, in 10.82 and 22.09 seconds, respectively.

Indian Valley senior Xander Heil won the regional title in the boys 1,600 (4:19.98) at New Concord.

Also winning at regionals, earlier in the week, was the Garaway girls 3,200 relay team in the Division III meet at Heath. The relay won in 9:49.09.

Here are the Tuscarawas County-area high school track and field athletes who earned automatic state berths at regional meets over the past week by finishing in the top four. The state meet is this Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Austintown Division I

BOYS

  • 800: 3, Preston Rieger, New Philadelphia, 1:54.59.

  • 110 hurdles: 3, Isaac Blickensderfer, Dover, 14.62.

  • 1,600 relay: 3, New Philadelphia, 3:22.52.

GIRLS

  • 800: 4, Sydney Stevenson, Dover, 2:14.84.

New Concord Division II

BOYS

  • High jump: 2, Jason Morris, Sandy Valley, 6-2.

  • Long jump: 4, Brock Smith Carrollton 21-03.5.

  • 100: 1, Alec Terakedis, Claymont, 10.82; 4, Gavin Henry, Indian Valley, 11.06.

  • 110 hurdles: 3, Kolton Thomas, Indian Valley, 15.11.

  • 400 relay: 2, Indian Valley, 43.28.

  • 1,600: 1, Xander Heil, Indian Valley, 4:19.98.

  • 200: 1, Alec Terakedis, Claymont, 22.09; 3, Nathan Baker, Carrollton, 22.16.

Heath Division III

BOYS

  • High jump: 3, Silas Miller Tusky Valley 6-0.

  • Long jump: 3, Bladon Garland, Newcomerstown, 21-10.25; 4, Parker Edwards, Strasburg, 21-3.75.

GIRLS
