Recruit from viral video where LSU's Brian Kelly danced terribly commits to Alabama

If you’re going to dance terribly you should at least land the recruit you danced terribly for.

Perhaps that’s the lesson LSU coach Brian Kelly learned on Wednesday when three-star tight end Danny Lewis signed with Alabama. Lewis posted a video of himself with Kelly to TikTok over the weekend while he was visiting Baton Rouge and, well, you can rate Kelly’s dance moves below.

That video immediately went viral and garnered over eight million views on Twitter alone, largely because of Kelly's awkwardness. And if Lewis would have signed with LSU, that awkwardness would have worked. Getting mocked for a few days on social media for bad dance moves is a trade a lot of college coaches will make for landing a key recruit.

Alas, that didn't happen for Kelly in his first recruiting class at LSU as he clearly needs to work on both his dance moves and his Southern accent. Lewis, a Louisiana native, chose the Crimson Tide instead as part of a class that ranks No. 1 in the country according to Rivals as of Wednesday afternoon.

Alabama has signed 24 recruits and four of them are five-star prospects. Seventeen are four-star prospects — Lewis is just one of three three-star recruits in Nick Saban's next loaded recruiting class. And don't you worry, Saban has danced during recruiting trips too.

Kelly’s first class isn’t nearly as large as Alabama’s, but it has a lot of quality too. LSU ranks No. 23 in Rivals’ team rankings with just 14 recruits. No team ranked above the Tigers has fewer than 17 signees. That class includes signatures from five-star QB Walker Howard and five-star defensive end Quency Wiggins, both natives of Louisiana. Just four of Kelly’s signees are from outside the state.

Locking down Louisiana is usually a good recipe for success for LSU. Yeah, recruits like Lewis may leave every now and then, but the state produces a lot of top-end talent.
