Record-setting day for Mount Union football's Wayne Ruby, Braxton Plunk in win

MARIETTA — It was a record-setting day for Mount Union's Wayne Ruby and Braxton Plunk on Saturday.

Ruby broke the Purple Raiders' career receiving yards record and Plunk became the program's career pass completions record holder in a 28-0 win over Marietta. The victory came in second-ranked Mount Union's Ohio Athletic Conference opener.

Ruby caught 10 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns from Plunk, including a 73-yarder. He surpassed the Mount Union career receiving yards record of 4,705 held by Cecil Shorts III.

Plunk finished 20 of 30 for 286 yards and four touchdowns. Bill Borchert held the Purple Raiders for career completions with 946.

Mount Union (2-0, 1-0) did all of its scoring in the first half — all on touchdown passes thrown by Plunk. Tre Radford caught his first collegiate touchdown. Chase Lawson had the other TD reception.

Rossy Moore tied Mount Union single game records for tackles for loss with six and sacks with four. His 11 total tackles tied a career best.

The Purple Raiders will host Muskingum in their home opener next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Kentucky Wesleyan rallies past Walsh

OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY — Christian Arrambide's 1-yard touchdown run with 16 seconds remaining lifted Kentucky Wesleyan to a 31-28 win over Walsh and denied the Cavaliers their first 3-0 start since 2010.

Kentucky Wesleyan drove 67 yards in 12 plays on the winning drive. It was Arrambide's third touchdown run of the night,

Walsh's Hayden Wickard threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Tavion Jackson caught both of Wickard's touchdowns and finished with nine catches for 122 yards. Dom Jennings rushed for 97 yards on 17 carries and two TDs.

The Cavs will host Thomas More next Saturday at noon.
