It was an old school pitchers duel rarely seen in today's NCAA baseball. Both Beck and his Oregon State counterpart, Kevin Abel, went the distance. Abel's only blemish was a sixth-inning homer to Brock Jones. That was all the offense Beck needed. The senior was simply phenomenal, recording ten strikeouts in nine innings while only allowing three hits, as the Cardinal strengthened its case as a legitimate College World Series contender.
