This is real life: Nick Chubb reels off longest run in Browns history, Cleveland rolls
Friends, make sure you’re sitting down when you read this because we’re about to rock the foundations of your world.
The Cleveland Browns are doing good things.
Running back Nick Chubb, in only his fourth game as a starter, unfurled a glorious 92-yard touchdown run against the Atlanta Falcons that’s not just the longest run from scrimmage this season, it’s the longest run in Browns history.
And before you start saying things like, “Longest run in Cleveland Browns history? What was the previous record, 3 yards?”, keep in mind that Jim Brown, one of the greatest running backs ever, once played for the Browns. Cleveland has a legacy — a small one, yes, and you’ve got to dig for it, but still — and Chubb has put himself in that company.
Could Cleveland be … good?
Chubb’s touchdown put Cleveland up 28-10 on a Falcons team pegged as, at the very least, a playoff-level squad. In that same game, quarterback Baker Mayfield began the game with 12 straight completions. There’s a lot of distance between the concepts of “Cleveland Browns” and “decent team,” but here’s the truth: the Browns are gathering the pieces in place to make a run at some point in the future. If the team can hire the right head coach and maximize its draft picks, we might just be looking at the first moments of what could be some very good times in Cleveland.
Cleveland held on to win, 28-16, moving the Browns to 3-6-1 on the season. The Falcons dropped to 4-5.
