Rayshawn Jenkins says full attendance at OTAs has made Jags roster competitive

While many may be caught up in watching Tim Tebow, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster has been trying to block out the noise and focus on getting better in organized team activities. So far, it looks like they’ve been able to do so, and the energy hasn’t been lacking under new coach Urban Meyer and his staff.

This was something receiver Marvin Jones Jr. spoke highly of after Thursday’s OTA practice, and his teammate, who he’s seen a lot of on the opposite side of the field, Rayshawn Jenkins, seemed to agree.

“I would definitely agree with Marvin [Jones],” Jenkins said. “It’s a lot of energy just around the entire building right now. We have a lot of guys and that’s something that’s kind of different than what I’ve been used to in the past. We have a lot of guys so we can really get some good-on-good reps. You can just feel the energy. You can just feel the amount of guys that are out there. And everybody [is] fairly new to one another, so of course there’s going to be some energy there and guys trying to get to know one another and things like that.”

One thing that has probably helped the energy is that a majority (if not all) of the team is buying in as the Jags had full attendance Thursday with all 90 players at the facility. Jenkins particularly felt that benefited the team from a competitive standpoint as they worked on red-zone situations Thursday.

“Just like I said earlier, we have, I don’t even know the number of guys, I want to say maybe 90 guys here, so it’s easy to get good competition on competition,” Jenkins said. “I feel like one good thing that I saw today was that everyone was competing and that’s the number one thing that I saw today, which will make up for a lot of mistakes down there, especially in that area of the field, which is probably one of the more critical areas of the field than any other place.”

It’s certainly good to hear that the is energy high at the moment for the Jags as it can become infectious and could lead to momentum. If it carries on to training camp and the preseason, the Jags might be able to get off to a better start in the regular season, which is an area of the schedule they need to take advantage of.
