Raiders star tight end Darren Waller leaves game because of injury. What’s the latest?

Las Vegas Raiders star tight end Darren Waller left the game against the Dallas Cowboys because of a knee injury he suffered in the first half.

Waller exited the game in the second quarter after he caught a 21-yard pass from Derek Carr to Dallas’ 37-yard line.

Waller limped to the sideline after the play, where he stood until halftime.

He remained in the locker room when the second half got underway but later returned to the sideline in street clothes.

“That’s never fun especially losing the Darren Waller part,” Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said.

CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson said Waller has a bone bruise.

Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia did not provide an update on Waller’s injury after Las Vegas’ 36-33 overtime victory.

“Actually, I have not spoken to the trainer at this particular point,” Bisaccia said. “I was trying to get around to every player and I have not seen him but, yes, we did lose him early and it got us out of a couple of packages, and it put a little bit more on the back of Foster Moreau.”

Bisaccia will say more in Monday’s press conference.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Friday that Waller had a strained iliotibial band, which is a one to three week injury.

According to UPMC Sports Medicine, IT band is a “thick band of fibrous tissue that runs along the outside of your leg. It starts at the hip and extends to the outer side of the shinbone just below the knee joint. The IT band works with the muscles in your thigh to provide stability to the outside of the knee joint.”
