Purdue's Matt Painter, Pacers Jim Boylen assistants on USA Select Team

Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter was the second-highest paid employee at the university in 2022.

Purdue coach Matt Painter and Pacers assistant coach Jim Boylen will serve as assistant coaches for the USA Select Team, which will train with the USA Basketball Men's National Team as it prepares for the FIBA Men's World Cup.

Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley will be the head coach of the Select Team, a group that includes 11 NBA players. The Select Team will train with the Men's National Team from Aug 3-6 in Las Vegas. The FIBA World Cup will run from Aug. 25-Sept. 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

Painter, who has been Purdue's head coach since 2005 and won 438 games and four Big Ten titles at Purdue, also has some history with USA Basketball. He was an assistant coach on the 2009 team that won gold at the FIBA U19 World Championships and was the head coach in 2011 and 2017 at the World University Games. He has also been on the committee for USA Basketball's U18 and U19 teams each of the last 10 years and has been the chairperson for each of the last five.

Boylen, who was recently promoted to a full-time assistant coach role with the Pacers after spending last season in an advisory role, was head coach at the University of Utah from 2007-11 and of the Chicago Bulls from 2018-20. He won NBA titles as an assistant with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995, and the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. He was head coach of the November 2021 and February 2022 World Cup Qualifying Teams.

The Select Team includes Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons), Jalen Duren (Detroit Pistons), Langston Galloway (free agent), Jalen Green (Houston Rockets), Quentin Grimes (New York Knicks), Chet Holmgren (Oklahoma City Thunder), John Jenkins (G League Ignite), Herb Jones (New Orleans Pelicans), Eric Mika (G League Ignite), Trey Murphy (New Orleans Pelicans), Keegan Murray (Sacramento Kings), Payton Pritchard (Boston Celtics), Naz Reid (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder).

The Men's National Team includes Pacers All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic), Mikal Bridges (Brooklyn Nets), Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks) Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Josh Hart (New York Knicks), Brandon Ingram (New Orleans Pelicans), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), Cameron Johnson (Brooklyn Nets), Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz), Bobby Portis (Milwaukee Bucks), and Austin Reaves (Los Angeles Lakers).
