Purdue football coach Ryan Walters doubles down in Michigan sign stealing comments

ANN ARBOR, Michigan − Ryan Walters didn't know the magnitude of what he said.

Not until Friday morning, following a Thursday night where the Purdue football coach made a comment about allegations that Michigan's football program was stealing signals from opponents.

"What's crazy is they aren't allegations. It happened," Walters said on his radio show Thursday night. "There's video evidence. There's ticket purchases and sales that you can track back. We know for a fact that they were at a number of our games."

When Walters woke up and made breakfast Friday, he grabbed a cup of coffee and turned on ESPN to see his name on the news ticker at the bottom of the screen.

He didn't realize the traction his comments would make.

"I was just calling a spade a spade, really in terms of advantages, disadvantages," Walters said Saturday. "I was just stating what happened."

When Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and Walters crossed paths following what became the Wolverines' ninth win in a row, the postgame handshake, if you call it that, was brief and no words were exchanged.

Both coaches insisted it was a typical postgame handshake during press conferences.

After the Wolverines defeated Purdue 41-13 at Michigan Stadium Saturday night, Walters doubled down on his Thursday radio show comments.

"I am not shy about speaking the truth," Walters said. "If I had to do it over again, I would say the same thing."
