Prep Spotlight: Eva Hamann lifts Springfield High volleyball to three-set win

Here are high school sports results from around Springfield for Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Hamann lifts Senators in three

MOUNT PULASKI — Springfield High senior Eva Hamann put together an all-around effort and the Senators won the final set with a 25-20, 21-25, 25-18 victory over Mount Pulaski in nonconference play.

Hamann logged eight kills, 15 digs, nine assists and four service aces in the win. Sophomore Rachel Becker added five kills and three blocks as the Senators moved to 14-13. Senior Lila Ambrose led Springfield with five blocks and junior Madison Clark had a team-high 11 assists.

Kamrie Charron provided Mount Pulaski with 16 kills and Grace Davis had 14. Charron was the team-leader in digs with 19 and Ella Bobell recorded 26 assists.

IN OTHER NEWS: REAGAN MCGLAUCHLEN collected 13 kills and IZZY REED had 17 assists in Pana’s 25-13, 25-10 victory at Vandalia in a South Central Conference match. KENNEDY BOWKER served four aces for Pana (19-9 overall, 5-2 in the SCC). … ADDISON GLENN had nine kills and KINLEY STOLTE finished with 13 assists to lead Nokomis to a 25-11, 25-8 victory at Mulberry Grove. LIZZY HILL topped Nokomis (22-4-1) with nine digs. … SYDNEY MCAFEE accumulated eight kills and five digs to power Pleasant Plains to a 25-17, 25-13 sweep at Riverton in a Sangamo Conference match. CLAIRE LONG had 14 assists and JILLIAN CAMERON served three aces for Plains (23-6 overall, 7-2 in the Sangamo). … Sangamo Conference champion Williamsville defeated New Berlin 25-21, 25-22 and finished league play with a 9-0 record. Williamsville improved to 19-6 overall.

GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING

O’Brien wins twice in triangular

Springfield High junior Mary O’Brien won two events and the Senators finished third in a triangular girls swimming and diving meet against Champaign Centennial and Bloomington at Eisenhower Pool.

O’Brien won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke. She anchored the 400 freestyle relay for Springfield that placed second behind first-place Bloomington.

Sophomore Abby Myers (100 butterfly) and freshman Lila Martin (200 IM) also had individual wins for the Senators, who finished with 87 points.

Centennial won the meet with 120 points, and Bloomington had 117 for second.
