Prep roundup: Hartland baseball takes hot streak into Brighton week

Hartland’s baseball team will take an eight-game winning streak into its two-game set this week against Brighton, including a victory over the second-ranked team in the state.

The Eagles beat No. 2 Northville, 4-3, Friday before posting a 9-1 victory over Grand Rapids Christian and a 20-6 rout of Grandville Saturday.

Hartland got hot after starting the season 5-6-1. The Eagles visit Brighton Monday and host the Bulldogs Wednesday.

The winning run against Northville crossed in the bottom of the sixth inning when Lucas Frack doubled with one out, advanced to third on a single by Bobby Griffon and scored on a fielder’s choice by Brady Quinn. Quinn beat out a double-play attempt, allowing the run to score.

Landon Brown pitched 1⅓ innings of shutout relief after Justin Fisher kept Hartland in the game by allowing three runs in 5⅔ innings.

Against Grand Rapids Christian, Ethan Aho allowed three hits and fanned five in six innings. Fisher and Grahm DeSantis each drove in two runs.

Against Grandville, Brayden Crowe continued his red-hot start to the season by going 5-for-5 with eight RBIs and two doubles. Crowe leads Livingston County with a .569 batting average and 28 RBIs.

Ty Kraut drove in three runs for the Eagles, who broke open a 7-6 lead with a 13-run fifth inning.

Brighton’s Carter Gregg homered in the first game and tripled in the nightcap.

Parker Aten hit a two-run homer in the second game to ignite a four-run second inning for the Bulldogs (12-6).

Brighton 9, Plymouth 5

Lane Petit had two doubles and two RBIs, Dan Call was 3-for-4 and Cooper Andrzejewski drove in two runs for Brighton.

Saline 15, Pinckney 0

Saline 17, Pinckney 4

Pinckney’s Evan McGlothin was 2-for-3 in the second game.

Oakland Christian 6, Charyl Stockwell 0

Drew Goodwin struck out 10 batters and allowed three unearned runs on three hits for Charyl Stockwell.

Softball

Anchor Bay Tournament

Hartland and Howell both went 1-1-1.

Hartland won 8-0 over Clarkston, tied Anchor Bay 0-0 in a seven-inning game and lost 6-4 to Lake Orion.

Jamie Smokovitz pitched a six-inning, one-hit shutout against Clarkston, while Alayna Gardner drove in three runs.

Olivia Forrest pitched seven shutout innings against Anchor Bay, fanning six.

Lake Orion came back from a 4-1 deficit through four innings, beating Hartland with three runs in the top of the seventh. Gardner drove in two runs for the Eagles (9-7-1).

Howell lost 5-4 to New Boston Huron, tied St. Clair 1-1 in five innings and won 7-1 over Petoskey.

Jada Challiss had a two-run double against Huron. Ava Lavery allowed one run on four hits in five innings against St. Clair. Brooke Keller gave up one run on five hits in six innings, while Amelia Ott drove in two runs against Petoskey for Howell (7-6-1).

Leslie Tournament

Pinckney (7-5) beat Birmingham Groves, 14-4, before losing to Leslie, 5-3.

Violet McWhinnie was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Paulina O’Donohue was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and CeCe Thorington was 2-for-3 with three steals against Groves for Pinckney (7-5).

Salem 7, Pinckney 6

Ayla Wright drove in two runs for Pinckney.

Detroit Country Day 11, Brighton 1

Brighton freshman Anna Minnick pitched a three-hit shutout in the second game in her first high school pitching performance. Lauren Damron was 2-for-3 in the nightcap for the Bulldogs (6-10).

Soccer

Pinckney 1, Williamston 0

Zaryah Griffin scored off a pass from Alexis Altizer with three minutes left.

Track and field

Mason Bulldog Invitational

Fowlerville’s Fiona Gitulli won long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 2.25 inches.

Kaitlyn Seiter took second in pole vault at 8-6 and had sixth-place finishes in the 200 and 400 for the Gladiators.

In the boys meet, Fowlerville’s Adam Aeschliman took second in pole vault at 12-6.

Leslie Blackhawk Invitational

Charyl Stockwell’s Lauren Hammond was second in the 100-meter dash in 14.10 seconds.

Rachel Lanning took second in the 400 and third in the 200, while Becka Lethorn tied for second in pole vault for the Sentinels.

In the boys meet, Anthony Urbaniak was fourth in the 1,600 for Stockwell.

Girls lacrosse

Grand Rapids Catholic Central 14, Brighton 13

Sophia Heady had five goals and one assist, Ella Toth four goals and two assists, and Georgia Gill four goal and one assist for Brighton (10-2).

Boys lacrosse

Cincinnati St. Xavier 19, Hartland 8

Drew Lockwood scored three goals and one assist, while Dylan Ayotte and Clayton Penziens each scored twice for Hartland.

Rockford 13, Brighton 2

Brighton fell to 8-3 against a Rockford team that improved to 8-0.
