Portage HS scores | April 16: Streetsboro softball sweeps Ravenna, Field remains perfect
A year ago, Streetsboro won three softball games.
The Rockets are now up to five.
Streetsboro earned a season sweep of Metro Athletic Conference rival Ravenna on Tuesday with a 5-3 victory.
Amy Rein doubled and singled, and T'Lanee Boyett, Khloe Cutright, Olivia DeToro, Cortney Evert and Olivia Knepper added a single apiece for the Rockets (5-7, 3-3). Streetsboro's Audriana Wert struck out seven while picking up the win in the circle.
Ravenna's Angelina Fuller and Mallory Sterba each drove in a run.
Field 15, Cloverleaf 0
Maddie Burge delivered another brilliant performance for the Falcons, tossing a two-hit shutout and bashing a homer.
Lilli Sutkowy and Tia Ulrich added a double and a homer apiece for Field (8-0, 6-0 MAC).
Up 3-0 at the end of three innings, the Falcons pulled away with seven runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.
Rootstown 17, JFK 4
The host Rovers bounced back from a loss Monday at Mogadore in a big way, scoring 10 runs in the second.
Boston Silveus homered and drove in five runs for Rootstown. Leadoff hitter Lilly Kamenash (3 for 4, three runs, two RBIs) and Shelbie Krieger (4 for 4) also had big days, as the top three hitters in the Rovers lineup went a combined 9 for 11 with eight RBIs.
Katie Sisley and Chloe Gardner combined to keep the Eagles in check from the circle, including the latter's two scoreless innings of relief.
Mogadore 14, Lake Center 1
The Wildcats remained undefeated with multiple runs in the first three innings, including a seven-run second.
Junior Addie Christy ensured that lead held up, allowing a single run over five efficient innings on just 65 pitches.
Windham 15, Bloomfield 3
Down a run, the host Bombers surged into the lead with nine runs in the third. Quinn Justham, who tripled and had a team-leading three runs, also tossed four strong innings, allowing three runs (all unearned) and striking out seven.
Lexi Goodwin and Alexandria Hudak added multiple hits for Windham, and Makenzi Bryson had a team-high three RBIs.
Highland 13, Roosevelt 0
Ashley Brewster tossed four scoreless innings for the Hornets, allowing one hit while striking out eight.
Highland had 10 hits, including Elsa Riedy's two-run double in the first and Lily Horton's two-run home run in the second. Horton finished with a team-high three hits and Riedy went 2 for 2 with three RBIs.
Claire Satola had Roosevelt's lone hit.
Steubenville 16, Southeast 9
Morgan Muncy came a home run short of the cycle in a Pirates nonconference road loss. Lexi Morris also doubled and tripled for Southeast, finishing with a team-high three RBIs.
Baseball
Ravenna 10, Springfield 8
After giving up six runs in the first inning, the Ravens responded by scoring multiple runs in each of the first four innings to take the lead for good.
Pitcher Logan Hysell also responded impressively from that shaky first inning to stay in the game and toss six innings to pick up the win. Connor Welling added a scoreless inning in relief, recording two of his three outs on strikeouts, to pick up the save.
Welling also drove in a team-high three runs and reached base four times, drawing three walks to go with a single. Nick Brazelton and Hysell each doubled and drove in two runs.
Aurora 13, Roosevelt 0
The visiting Greenmen broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth.
Alex Brooker sparked Aurora with two doubles, and Colin Hensley added a double and drove in three runs. That was plenty for pitcher Zach Williams, who tossed a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts against a single walk.
Rootstown 13, Aquinas 0
Brady Kreitzburg tossed a four-hit shutout for the Rovers, striking out 10, while Austin Biggin and Blake Postlethwait led the offense with three hits apiece. Biggin also had a team-high three RBIs while Sean Boveington and Joe Weaver added two apiece.
Streetsboro 4, Woodridge 1
Braden Craft tossed a gem, allowing an unearned run over six innings to pick up the win for the Rockets.
Jack Batten homered, Jayden Coffie doubled and eight of nine Streetsboro starters tallied a hit.
Lake Center 16, Southeast 1
Harrison Coblentz had two doubles, two runs and two RBIs for the Tigers, while Grant Coblentz tossed several scoreless innings. Dylan Maninga added a double and four RBIs for Lake Center (11-0, 4-0 PTC), which also got a triple from Nathan Bryant.
Lordstown 13, Windham 7
The Bombers fell despite Anthony Paolella and Gavin Kiser driving in two runs apiece.
Brian King helped Windham hang around with 3⅓ innings of scoreless relief, allowing a hit while striking out four.
Tennis
Ravenna 3, Coventry 2
The Ravens overcame losses at first and second singles to prevail. Lily Schofield helped Ravenna avoid a singles sweep, topping Coventry's Vincent Xie in straight sets, while the Ravens won both doubles matches by default.
