Tulare County athlete of the week: Tulare Western's Ashlyn Reed

Tulare Western track and field standout Ashlyn Reed was voted by readers as the Visalia Times-Delta Tulare County high school athlete of the week.

In an online poll that closed on May 17, Reed received 245 votes, or a 29.3% majority, of the 839 responses.

Reed captured an individual Central Section Division I championship in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet and 4 inches.

Here are the choices for the week of May 14-17:

  • Rebekah Beasley, softball, Mission Oak: Beasley had a hit, RBI and run to help the Hawks defeat Dinuba 4-1.

  • Victoria Frias, softball, Lindsay: Frias had 12 strikeouts in a 24-1 rout against Granite Hills. She also hit two home runs.

  • Devin Ibarra, boys track and field, El Diamante: Ibarra won the 2024 Central Section Division II individual championships in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.

  • Easton King, baseball, Tulare Western: King went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, four RBIs and a walk in a 17-5 rout of Tulare Union.

  • Miles Munger, baseball, Exeter: Munger earned the win on the mound in the Monarchs' 3-2 win over Selma. He also went 2-for-3 hitting.

  • Ashlyn Reed, girls track and field, Tulare Western: Reed captured an individual Central Section Division I championship in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet and 4 inches.

  • Graycie Serpa, girls track and field, Redwood: Serpa set a new school record for the 400 meters at the 2024 Central Section Division I championship meet at Sanger with a time of 56.90 seconds. She came in fourth place.

  • Caleb Silva, baseball, El Diamante: Silva recorded three hits with two runs, a stolen base and a double to help the Miners beat Porterville 13-4.

Nominations are based on information available to the Times-Delta.

All high school varsity players from Tulare County can be on the ballot. Nominations must be received for consideration by Monday morning following that week's games.
