Players, owners resume talks Wednesday
NHL owners and players went back to the bargaining table Wednesday morning after a late-night session on Tuesday in New York that lasted nearly eight hours.
The two sides met briefly before the league's regularly scheduled midday Board of Governors meeting.
The discussions involved a select group of players and owners trying to make headway on a new collective bargaining agreement that might save the season.
"I think everybody is working hard. I think everybody wants to get a deal done, so I think that's encouraging," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said after Tuesday's session ended just past midnight. "We look forward to hopefully making more progress.
"I thought it was a constructive day. We had a good dialogue. In some ways, I'd say it might be the best day we've had, which isn't to paint too overly optimistic of a picture. There is still a lot of work to do and a lot to get done."
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr were not part of the meeting.
The NHL lockout began Sept. 16 and has officially wiped out regular-season games through Dec. 14 and the league's All-Star game.
