Pitcher Elexis Landwehr earns her third win of the season for Camden-Frontier softball

PITTSFORD — The Camden-Frontier softball team met up in Pittsford to face the Wildcats in a division rivalry that was part league opener for Camden-Frontier, and also the season opener for the Wildcats.

With the integration of new rules discontinuing league doubleheaders, the battle between the Wildcats and Camden-Frontier this year ended up being split into Tuesday night's matchup and then a future date on May 2 at Camden-Frontier. This meant that Tuesday night's matchup would be an important first win in league play for whoever came out on top.

It was a successful road trip for Camden-Frontier softball and coach Malena Lawson as they won 16-6 over Pittsford. Elexis Landwehr would lead the team in the circle, picking up her third win of the season.

"It's huge for both of us to get wins," Lawson said. "Today, we started off a little slow, so did baseball, because we didn't have our seniors for a couple days. They just got back from their senior trip. Our girls fought hard to come right back and pull off that win."

Elexis Landwehr pitches seven innings, strikes out eight

Landwehr stood for seven innings in the circle against the Wildcats, striking out a total of eight batters, fending off a Pittsford rally in her team's win on Tuesday night. The sophomore faced a tough stretch in the third and fourth innings, giving up four runs to the Wildcats, but held the Wildcats scoreless until a stolen base at home in the final inning.

"It felt awesome," Landwehr said about earning the win. "I'm really happy for today, (but) I'm looking forward to the wins ahead. I love my team and I hope we keep pushing through."

The sophomore has won as a closer and as a starter this season. Last year, Landwehr primarily played third base, but this year she will look to lead the team in innings on the mound.

Senior Lexus Sigler had another standout effort at-bat, earning a triple and double base hit, three total hits, five RBIs and two runs scored. Sigler has drove in 10 runs so far through five games and has had four triples. Maddy Stephens had two hits, two RBIS and two runs. Karley Mckibbin had one triple-base hit, three RBIs and one run.
