Philadelphia Eagles 2024 NFL schedule: This long Cowboys streak ends, lots of travel miles

If you're going to see the Eagles through the first six weeks of the season, you'll most likely have to get on an airplane.

That's because the Eagles are playing only one home game at Lincoln Financial Field leading into their Week 6 home game against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 13.

Of course, the Eagles' season opener is officially a home game − in Sao Paulo, Brazil − on Friday night, Sept. 6, against the Green Bay Packers. That game was announced in February, and the Packers were announced as the opponent last month.

It's the first of five scheduled prime-time games for the Eagles. The second is the following Monday night, on Sept. 16, against the Atlanta Falcons.

That game is noteworthy for two reasons. The first is that Eagles legend Jason Kelce, who retired in March, will be a part of ESPN's broadcast team as an analyst for the network's Monday Night Countdown and halftime broadcast.

The second is the Eagles will face Falcons QB Kirk Cousins. It will mark the third straight year that the Eagles are facing Cousins at home in a Week 2 prime-time game. Cousins played for the Vikings for the previous six seasons.

The other prime-time games are scheduled for Week 9 at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the second time ex-Eagles coach Doug Pederson will return to the Linc as the Jaguars coach; Week 11 at home against the Washington Commanders, perhaps with No. 2 overall pick in QB Jayden Daniels at the helm; and a Week 12 game against the Rams in Los Angeles.

Incredibly, the Eagles do not have a prime-time game scheduled against the Dallas Cowboys this season. It's the first time since 2006 that the Eagles and Cowboys aren't playing at least one of two of their games against each other in prime time.

But it's possible that changes late in the season. The bitter rivals are scheduled to play each other Week 10 in Dallas and then Week 17 in Philly. Both games are scheduled for 4:25 p.m., with the first meeting set for CBS. But it is possible that one or both games could be flexed to either Sunday night, Monday night or Thursday night.

As for the early-season travel, the Eagles will go back to the road to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 and to Tampa to face the Buccaneers in Week 4. The Bucs ended the Eagles' season in the wild-card round last January in their 32-9 victory.

For the Eagles, it'll be the fourth straight game against the Bucs in Tampa going back to the playoffs in Jan. 2022.

That heavy travel start to the season is part of 22,756 miles that the Eagles will log this season, which ranks eighth in the NFL.

Then the Eagles have a bye week in Week 5 before playing their first Sunday afternoon home game against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 13.

The Eagles then go back to the road for two straight games, an Oct. 20 game against the New York Giants. That game will mark the return of Eagles running back Saquon Barkley to MetLife Stadium, where he spent the first six seasons of his NFL career before signing a three-year deal worth as much as $37.8 million in March.

The Eagles are in Cincinnati the following week to face the Bengals and QB Joe Burrow before facing the Jaguars at home, the Cowboys on the road and the Commanders at home.

That takes the Eagles to their final plane ride of the season, a cross-country trip to face the Los Angeles Rams (9-8 in 2023) in Week 12.

The Eagles will then play four of their last six games at home, with the two road games at Baltimore in Week 13 and Washington in Week 16. Between those two games, the Eagles will face the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers at home.

They'll close with home games against the Cowboys and Giants.

Unlike last season, the Eagles' strength of schedule is nowhere near as difficult as it was last season. The Eagles are tied for 21st in strength of schedule as their opponents had a record of 142-147 last season, a winning percentage of .491.

The Ravens (13-4), Cowboys (twice, 12-5) and Browns (11-6) are the only opponents that won more than 10 games last season. At the other end, the Eagles face the Panthers (2-15) and Commanders (4-13) twice.

Eagles preseason schedule set

The Eagles also released their preseason schedule. They'll face the Ravens on Friday, Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Baltimore, which is unusual since the Eagles are playing them during the regular season. They'll also face the Patriots in New England on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m.

Their only preseason home game will be on Saturday, Aug. 24, against the Minnesota Vikings. That game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
