ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- After a breathtaking day of scoring in the third round of the RSM Classic on Saturday, another day of relatively calm winds off the St. Simons Sound and warm temperatures may result in several PGA Tour records threatened.

Ludvig Aberg began the day with a one-shot lead at 20-under par at the Sea Island Club Seaside Course. Eric Cole is next at 19-under and Mackenzie Hughes at 18-under. All three flirted with shooting 59 in the third round before Aberg and Cole finished with 61s and Hughes a 60.

Here are some of the records that might be in play later in the fourth round:

Who holds the low 72-hole score in Tour history?

Justin Thomas shot 27-under par 253 to win the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2017. That's also the low score in relation to par on a par-70 course (such as Seaside). Aberg would have to shoot 62 to break the record.

Who holds the low 72-hole par score?

Cameron Smith of Ponte Vedra Beach shot 34-under in 2020 to win the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. The Plantation Course is the only par-73 on the PGA Tour.

Who has the most birdies in one PGA Tour event?

Jon Rahm (2022 Sentry), Paul Gow (2001 B.C. Open) and Mark Calcavecchia (2001 WM Championship) are tied for the record with 34 birdies over 72 holes. Cole has the best chance entering the final round with 23. Don't discount the possibility: he leads the PGA Tour in birdies.

Who has the low 18-hole score in PGA Tour history?

That would be Jacksonville resident Jim Furyk, who shot 58 in the 2016 Travelers Championship. There have been 11 59s recorded.

It's not beyond the realm that someone could threaten Furyk's record in the final round. Hughes missed an 18-foot putt for a 59 in the third round and also missed two other birdie attempts from 18 feet. Cole missed 20-foot attempts on his last two holes and had one bogey. Aberg parred his first four holes in the third round, missing birdie putts of 20 feet or less all four times.

Shooting 59 at the Seaside Course requires an 11-under score. Matching Furyk's record would be 12-under.
