PGA Championship's 49th hole-in-one, fourth at Valhalla Golf Course, recorded Friday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sebastian Soderberg stole some of the attention on Scottie Scheffler early Friday by recording the 49th hole-in-one in PGA Championship history.
The Swede aced hole No. 8, which is playing at 169 yards. The shot came in a steady rain.
Soderberg, 33, is ranked No. 92 in the world and has one once on the European Tour. He is the second Swedish player to make an ace in a PGA Championship, joining Freddie Jacobson, who accomplished the feat in the final round of the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills.
This is the fourth ace at Valhalla during a PGA Championship. Three were made in 1996 PGA Championship, two on hole No. 3 and one on No. 14.
No holes-in-one were recorded at Valhalla in either the 2000 or 2014 PGA Championships.
Soderberg shot a 2-over 73 in Thursday's opening round.
Soderberge's ace came as most of the attention on the course was on Scheffler, the world No. 1 who was arrested and released early Friday.
Scheffler was handcuffed and taken in by the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections after attempting to drive past a police officer into Valhalla about an hour after a man was struck by a shuttle bus and killed while attempting to cross the road near the entrance.
Charges included second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.
